The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peirce stuffs the takedown.
Howe rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Peirce moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Howe shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Peirce is trying to defend but Howe finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Peirce keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Howe thows a huge punch but Peirce dodges it nicely.
Peirce tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Peirce manages to get to full guard.
Peirce trying to keep a closed guard but Howe is proving a slippery customer.
Howe throws a big right hand that misses.

Peirce is adopting a defensive guard.

Howe drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Peirce manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Howe has Peirce in his guard.
Peirce tries to stand but Howe is controlling from the bottom.
Peirce prevents Howe from getting back to his feet.
Peirce would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Peirce pushes down on Howe's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Howe might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Peirce is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Howe has managed to free his arm - good work.

Howe pushes Peirce off looking to stand but Peirce dives back in and keeps control.
Howe has hold of Peirce's hands but Peirce slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Howe knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Peirce on the ground.
Howe manages to get to full guard.
Peirce passes Howe's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Peirce working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Peirce stops Howe from getting back to his feet.
Peirce perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Howe wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Howe is breathing heavily.
Peirce works his way into side control.
Howe is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Peirce cracks Howe with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Howe tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Peirce presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Peirce quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Peirce but it's paid off an Howe is forced to tap! Nice work by Peirce.
