Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steven Willis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gustavo Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gustavo Santos!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Edson Gomes and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Willis.

Santos moves into the clinch.
Santos goes for a takedown attempt but Willis pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Willis uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Santos has time to react.


It looks like Gustavo Santos has been cut.

Willis closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Willis wants to break the clinch but can't.
Santos gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Willis.
I was talking to Willis's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Willis has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Willis jumps guard but Santos turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Santos is pulling down on Willis's head. It's preventing any offense from Willis, at least for the moment.

Santos pushes Willis off and scrambles back to his feet.
Willis shoots in looking for a takedown. Santos tries to sprawl out of it but Willis keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Santos manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Santos avoids a punch combination nicely.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Willis tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Santos defends well and Willis ends up having to push Santos into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Willis shoots for a double leg takedown but Santos sprawls well. He's pushed Willis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Willis lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Santos circles away quickly and effectively.
Steven Willis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Santos tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Willis paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Willis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Santos sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Willis somewhat.

Willis is trying to break free.

Santos can't get the takedown.
Santos has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Willis avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Santos tries to pull guard but Willis won't allow it.

Willis tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Santos smiles and moves away.
Willis dives in and grabs Santos's left leg, looking for a takedown. Santos pushes down on Willis's head and hops out.
Willis swats away the attempt to clinch by Santos.

Santos manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Willis manages to get himself to full guard.

Willis tries to hold on but Santos postures up.
Willis is working to get back to half guard.

Santos has hold of Willis's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Willis manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Gustavo Santos has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Gustavo Santos comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Santos has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
