PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tai Tuivasa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Caio Cesar Caprillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Caprillo has chosen The Beatles - Here Comes The Sun as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tai Tuivasa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 32 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Caio Cesar Caprillo!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Wagner Zegers and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caprillo shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Tuivasa fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Caprillo looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Caprillo closes the distance and clinches.
Tuivasa is trying to break free.

Caprillo breaks the clinch.
Caprillo fails in his attempt to clinch.
Tuivasa rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Caprillo counters with a series of strikes. Tuivasa will be more careful next time no doubt.
Tuivasa leaves Caprillo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Caprillo moves out of range of the strikes.
Caprillo tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Nice takedown defense from Tuivasa. No joy for Caprillo on that attempt.
Tai Tuivasa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Caio Cesar Caprillo.

Caprillo gets a clinch.
Tuivasa is trying to push Caprillo away but Caprillo has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Caprillo lands an elbow inside.
Tuivasa looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Caprillo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Caprillo forces Tuivasa back against the cage and clinches.
Tuivasa working aggressively here.
Tuivasa has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Tuivasa is trying to break free.
Caprillo lands a right hand.
Tuivasa tries to break free but Caprillo pushes him back against the cage.
Caprillo's coach down at Sanitarium was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Caprillo's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Caprillo works on Tuivasa's body with a couple of short punches.
Tuivasa lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Caprillo backwards.

Caprillo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Caprillo closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Tuivasa's guard.
Tuivasa wants to stand up but Caprillo is controlling him.
Caprillo works over Tuivasa with some ground and pound from guard.

Caprillo stands and steps away. Tuivasa gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Caprillo looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Tuivasa knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Caprillo on the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Caprillo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Tuivasa is looking to stand up but Caprillo isn't so interested in that idea.
Tuivasa looking to control but Caprillo passes into half guard.
Tuivasa is breathing heavily.

Caprillo stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Tuivasa to get to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Caprillo looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Caprillo sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Tuivasa on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Tuivasa tries to get out of the position.
Caprillo tries to pass to full mount but Tuivasa defends it.
Caprillo content to control rather than advance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Caprillo has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Tuivasa defend it? Caprillo steps over the head and cranks it - Tuivasa is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Caprillo!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Caio Cesar Caprillo!
A very excited looking Caio Cesar Caprillo made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
