Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Harlan Palmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Roberts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Harlan Palmer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jim Roberts!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Roberts shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Palmer looking to control but Roberts passes into half guard.
Palmer wants to get back to his feet.
Roberts is trying to control the action in half guard but Palmer is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Roberts trying to control the pace.
Roberts not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Roberts passes the guard and advances to mount!
Palmer regains half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Roberts trying to control the action but Palmer is working from the bottom.
Palmer is concentrating on defense, preventing Roberts from advancing position.

Roberts stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Palmer to get to his feet.

Roberts looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Roberts is trying to control. Palmer wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Palmer pushes Roberts off looking to stand but Roberts dives back in and keeps control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Palmer is looking for a sweep. Roberts is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Palmer won't allow Roberts to pass to mount.
Palmer is trying to stand.

Roberts seems to be working for a kimura but Palmer defends the submission attempt.
Palmer has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Roberts is working away from the top position though.
Palmer is not content to let Roberts control the position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Roberts throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Palmer to regain full guard.
Roberts stopping the sweep attempt from Palmer.
Roberts postures up.
Roberts slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jim Roberts.
Palmer shoots for a double leg takedown but Roberts sprawls well. He's pushed Palmer's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Roberts closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Palmer's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Roberts is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Roberts trying to control but Palmer is working from the bottom.
Palmer is looking to stand back up but Roberts counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Palmer.
Palmer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
It looks like Roberts is going to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Roberts dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Roberts fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Palmer, pushing him back against the cage.

Roberts drags the fight down to the ground.
Palmer is stalling in the full guard.

Palmer drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Roberts dives on top into guard.
Jim Roberts has got the better of the ground game so far.

Roberts stands up and waves to Palmer to follow him.

Roberts shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Palmer is trying to defend but Roberts finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Palmer really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Roberts trying to control the action but Palmer is working from the bottom.
Palmer is looking to escape.
Roberts looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Roberts trying to advance position but Palmer counters by regaining guard.
Roberts being controlled here momentarily.

Palmer pushes a forearm under Roberts's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Roberts is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Harlan Palmer!
