PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between King Vasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johar Mandala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, King Vasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Johar Mandala!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Sosuke Kotani and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mandala clinches up against the cage.

Vasquez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Vasquez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mandala as he avoids it easily.
Mandala lands with a nice body punch.
Mandala misses with a takedown attempt
and Vasquez counters with a nice kick to the body.

Vasquez has taken the fight to the clinch.
Vasquez tries to break the clinch but Mandala is controlling the position.
A short right from Vasquez on the inside.

Mandala breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Mandala misses with a takedown
and Vasquez counters with a head kick. That will keep Mandala thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Johar Mandala seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mandala shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Vasquez manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mandala trying to control the position from guard on top but Vasquez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Vasquez looking to control.
Vasquez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Mandala slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Mandala postures up in Vasquez's guard and throws a big left but Vasquez blocks it.

Vasquez is working an open guard so Mandala takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Mandala throws a head kick that misses.
Mandala shoots in looking for a takedown but Vasquez manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mandala's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
King Vasquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johar Mandala.
Mandala shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Vasquez as he jumps to the side.
Mandala doesn't manage to clinch there - Vasquez circles away.
Mandala lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mandala throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Vasquez's waist but Vasquez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mandala off to one side.
Vasquez really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

Vasquez wants to clinch but Mandala slips to the side

and Mandala moves into the clinch.
Mandala has Vasquez pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Vasquez manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Vasquez misses with a hook from the clinch.
Vasquez misses with a body punch.
Vasquez scores with a hook to the body.
Mandala tries to score a body lock takedown but Vasquez shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Vasquez can't find room to land a body shot as Mandala controls the action.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Vasquez wants to get back to striking at distance but Mandala won't allow it.
Mandala wants a takedown but no success here.
Mandala jumps guard but Vasquez turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Vasquez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Horrible takedown by Vasquez or perhaps it was just good defense by Mandala which made him look bad.
Mandala tries to clinch but Vasquez is having none of it.
Mandala fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Mandala shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Vasquez sprawls well. Vasquez wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mandala gets slowly back to his feet.
Vasquez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mandala manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Mandala fails with the takedown
and Vasquez counters with a flying knee. Nice.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mandala keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Vasquez shoots for a double leg takedown but Mandala sprawls well. He's pushed Vasquez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Vasquez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Vasquez doesn't manage to clinch there - Mandala circles away.

Mandala clinches up against the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vasquez with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Mandala has Vasquez pressed against the cage, preventing Vasquez from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Mandala is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Johar Mandala will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Mandala shoots in for a takedown but Vasquez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Mandala is trying to drag Vasquez to the mat but Vasquez just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Vasquez is looking to break free of the clinch but Mandala has double underhooks.
Mandala goes for a takedown attempt but Vasquez pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
King Vasquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johar Mandala.
Vasquez goes for a double leg but Mandala avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Mandala continues to drive forward.
Vasquez is trying to break the clinch but Mandala is controlling him.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Vasquez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mandala stuffs the takedown attempt from Vasquez. Vasquez gets slowly back to his feet.
Vasquez stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Vasquez wants it to stay on the feet.
Mandala gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Vasquez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mandala won't be happy with that.
Mandala is breathing heavily.

Vasquez looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Mandala dodges the ground and pound from Vasquez.
Mandala avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Vasquez.
Mandala is letting Vasquez control him for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mandala is trying to control Vasquez's posture but Vasquez avoids it.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Vasquez wants to control but Mandala is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vasquez has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Mandala is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Vasquez yanks on the arm and Mandala is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Vasquez.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). King Vasquez!
