PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rohan Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johny Hendricks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Rohan Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johny Hendricks!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Alyssa Summers and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan shoots in looking for a takedown but Hendricks manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Khan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Hendricks feints and as Khan raises his hands in defense, Hendricks changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Khan is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Khan on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Khan tries to get out of the position.
Hendricks not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Hendricks trying to control the position from guard on top but Khan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Khan wants to get back to his feet but Hendricks is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Hendricks wants to improve his position but Khan is controlling well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Still in half guard, Khan seems content to control.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Khan is keen to just control but Hendricks is a slippery customer.
Hendricks wants to improve his position but Khan is controlling well.

Khan shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Khan looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Hendricks is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Khan's half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hendricks in particular looking to stall.

Hendricks seems to be working for a kimura but Khan defends the submission attempt.
Khan wants to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rohan Khan will probably get the nod.

Hendricks displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Khan.
Khan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hendricks but Hendricks pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Hendricks feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Khan is looking to stand up but Hendricks isn't so interested in that idea.
Hendricks postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hendricks throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Khan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Hendricks tries to stand but Khan is controlling his head.
Khan pushes Hendricks away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Hendricks gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Johny Hendricks wasn't active enough on the ground.
Hendricks connects with a body shot that sends Khan's belly button to the back.
Rohan Khan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Khan tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hendricks defends well and Khan ends up having to push Hendricks into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rohan Khan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hendricks tries to break free but Khan pushes him back against the cage.
Hendricks fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Hendricks jumps guard and drags Khan to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Hendricks tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hendricks is adopting a defensive guard.
Let's hope that Hendricks has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Hendricks is trying to control the position but Khan postures up.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Johny Hendricks hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Khan shoots in for a double leg but Hendricks sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Hendricks throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Hendricks counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hendricks.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hendricks is trying to push Khan away but Khan has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johny Hendricks showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Khan stuffs the takedown.
Hendricks looks to score with a jab to the body but Khan is just out of range.
Khan takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Khan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hendricks's waist but Hendricks gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Khan off to one side.
Hendricks leaves Khan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Hendricks closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Khan quickly recovers to half guard.

Hendricks is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Hendricks winds up and cracks Khan with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Khan has one foot on Hendricks's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Khan.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rohan Khan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Hendricks shoots in and bounces Khan off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Khan wants to stand but Hendricks is controlling the position.
Hendricks wants to control from the top but Khan keeps moving.
Hendricks with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Khan wants to stand up but Hendricks is controlling him.

Hendricks is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Johny Hendricks was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Well Hendricks has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
