Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ratt Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wayne Ballantine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hughes's entrance music is Country boy can survive. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ballantine looks to land a combination but Hughes avoids it well.
Ballantine shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Ballantine thows a left - swing and a miss!
Ballantine rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hughes moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Hughes shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hughes showed some decent athleticism there.
Hughes is thwarting Ballantine's attempts to control the position.

Hughes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Ballantine throws the left hand but Hughes avoids the punch easily.
Ballantine scores with a hook to the body. Hughes takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Hughes ducks right into an uppercut from Ballantine.
It looks like Ratt Hughes has been cut.
Hughes is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hughes slips a straight right by Ballantine.
Ballantine clobbers Hughes with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Ballantine connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Hughes's hands.
Nice combo by Ballantine! Oh, that's hurt him - Hughes falls to the canvas and Ballantine follows him into side control.
Hughes is rocked!
Hughes is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Oh Hughes is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ballantine wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hughes keeps working.
Hughes seems to have got his legs back now.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Ballantine tries for a kimura but Hughes is defending well.
Ballantine decides to stand back up. Ballantine steps back and let's Hughes get back to his feet.

Ballantine misses with the combination.

Hughes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ballantine as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ratt Hughes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ballantine misses with a low kick.
Ballantine lands a slapping body shot.
Ballantine scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Wayne Ballantine is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ballantine cracks Hughes with an uppercut from hell and Hughes crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Ballantine's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Ballantine thows a body shot but no joy.
Ballantine scores with a jab.
Ballantine throws a lazy right hand but Hughes sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Hughes defending well as Ballantine loads up on a big left hand.
Hughes shoots for a takedown but Ballantine saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Ballantine drops Hughes with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Hughes looks back up at him and smiles so Ballantine waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
A punch combination from Ballantine misses.
Ballantine just misses with a punch to the body.
Ballantine cracks Hughes with a big right hand and Hughes goes down!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Wayne Ballantine dominated that round.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Hughes circles to his right, straight into a beautiful hook by Ballantine. Hughes falls face first into the canvas - great knockout victory for Ballantine!
