The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ferreira scores with a takedown into Cruz's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cruz thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Cruz wants to stand and escape but Ferreira is having none of it.
Cruz keeping full guard, as Ferreira tries to pass.
Cruz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ferreira is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Gabriel Ferreira wasn't active enough on the ground.
Cruz tries a head kick but it misses.

Cruz manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Ferreira on his heels. He'll look to pass Ferreira's guard now, I'm sure.
Ferreira has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
