PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jay Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Geeves Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Armstrong comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Kickstart My Heart kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Geeves Armstrong told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Armstrong!
Penn will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Penn working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Penn thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Penn trying to control the action but Armstrong is working from the bottom.

Penn goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Armstrong has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Penn but great work by Armstrong.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Armstrong wants to free his trapped foot but Penn is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Geeves Armstrong hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Armstrong throws a nice outside leg kick.
Penn shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Armstrong sprawls well. Armstrong wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Penn gets slowly back to his feet.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Penn takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Armstrong works the jab nicely.
Penn takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

It looks like Jay Penn has been cut.
Armstrong throws a head kick that misses.
A left and a right from Armstrong both land. Nice combination.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Penn shoots in looking for a takedown but Armstrong manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Penn's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Armstrong catches Penn with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Armstrong feints and then cracks Penn's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Penn down.
Armstrong displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Penn.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jay Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Horrible takedown by Penn or perhaps it was just good defense by Armstrong which made him look bad.
Geeves Armstrong seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Penn on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Armstrong. Armstrong obviously looking to wear him down.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Armstrong, right into the meat.
Penn needs to keep his hands up - Armstrong had a free shot at his head there.
Penn throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Armstrong's waist but Armstrong gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Penn off to one side.
Armstrong fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Penn has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Penn tries to move into range but Armstrong moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Armstrong lands a nice leg kick that just misses Penn's sensitive parts.
Armstrong delivers a nice body kick.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Armstrong connects with a good right hand that stumbles Penn. Penn circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Penn is rocked!
Armstrong cracks Penn with a hook to the temple - Penn is on wobbly legs here! Armstrong swarms him with hook after hook, landing with each one! Penn falls to the canvas face first and the referee dives in to stop the fight! Armstrong wins by TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Geeves Armstrong!
