PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jerry Stuart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Castanha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jerry Stuart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Carlos Castanha!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Darius Henderson and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stuart fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Castanha looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Castanha prevents Stuart from improving his position.
Stuart moves into full guard.

Stuart isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Castanha stacks Stuart on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Castanha!

Stuart throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Castanha is working to avoid the ground and pound but Stuart connects with a decent elbow.
Stuart misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Castanha is looking for a sweep.
Castanha is trying to buck Stuart off.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Castanha can do anything to dispel that myth.

Stuart throws an elbow but Castanha slips to the side and avoids it well.
Castanha tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Stuart connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Castanha some visible discomfort.
Sloppy strikes there by Stuart.
Stuart working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Stuart really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Castanha tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Stuart has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Stuart looks up at the clock and then as Castanha takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Stuart smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Castanha really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stuart. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Stuart will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Stuart moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
The strikes coming from Stuart are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

We're going to have a standup here because Jerry Stuart wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Castanha shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Stuart shoots in for a takedown but Castanha shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Castanha throws a big elbow that misses.
Castanha stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stuart swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Stuart manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Castanha takes a knee to the side of the body.
Castanha is breathing heavily.
Stuart tries to break free but Castanha pushes him back against the cage.
Stuart stalling in the clinch but Castanha improves position.

Stuart is working Castanha over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Stuart slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Castanha wants to get back to his feet but Stuart passes into half guard.

Stuart passes into side control, despite Castanha's attempt to control the position.
Stuart lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Stuart is looking to take a break and control but Castanha is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's time! Stuart's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Castanha tries to clinch there but Stuart circles away.

Castanha shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Castanha wants to control but Stuart is keeping him busy.

Stuart has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Castanha off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Castanha takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Stuart circles away from the clinch attempt.

Stuart gets caught napping as Castanha dives in and scores a takedown. Stuart manages to retain guard.

Stuart is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Stuart is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Stuart decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
What can Castanha do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Stuart, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
