Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Buford Bass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joanna Piechocka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buford Bass has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Buford Bass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joanna Piechocka!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Piechocka misses the target.

Bass tries to sprawl but Piechocka drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Piechocka prevents Bass from standing back up.

Piechocka is looking for submissions but instead, Bass has regained full guard.
Piechocka prevents Bass from getting back to his feet.
Piechocka controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Piechocka is standing up over Bass. Bass looks to escape but Piechocka dives into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bass regains half guard, as Piechocka was trying to land strikes.

Piechocka is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Piechocka trying to mount his opponent but Bass defends it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bass blocking the ground and pound attempt from Piechocka.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Piechocka working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Piechocka controlling the action here.
Bass wants to get back to his feet.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Piechocka connects with a nice short shot to Bass's temple.
Piechocka content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Bass looking for subs from the bottom but Piechocka mounts him!

Piechocka content just to control the position here.
Bass is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Bass is squirming around, avoiding Piechocka's attempts to control the action.
Piechocka controlling the position easily from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Piechocka throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Bass was covering up waiting for the punch and Piechocka finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Piechocka stops Bass from standing up.
Bass will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Piechocka stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Piechocka feints and as Bass raises his hands in defense, Piechocka changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Piechocka wants to control from the top but Bass keeps moving.
Bass wants to get back to his feet but Piechocka is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Piechocka is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Piechocka slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Joanna Piechocka has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Piechocka looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Bass!
Piechocka working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Bass is looking to regain half guard here but Piechocka keeps moving and retains side control.

Bass is trying to buck Piechocka off.

Piechocka goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Bass rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Piechocka's guard! Nice work there by Bass!

Bass has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Bass throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Bass postures up in Piechocka's guard and throws a big left but Piechocka blocks it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Piechocka is trying to keep Bass in close.
Bass works over Piechocka with some ground and pound from guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Piechocka throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joanna Piechocka showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Piechocka fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Bass to the ground. Piechocka is now in Bass's guard.

Bass is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Piechocka trying to control but Bass is working from the bottom.
Piechocka is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Bass wants to get back to his feet but Piechocka is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Joanna Piechocka has got the better of the ground game so far.
Piechocka takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Bass keeping moving, preventing Piechocka from controlling successfully.
Bass really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Piechocka missing with a left hand there. Bass was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Piechocka gets a takedown into half guard.
Bass tries to kick Piechocka off but Piechocka keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Bass is staying active underneath Piechocka, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Bass wants to stand back up but Piechocka manages to pass into side control.
Bass parries the strikes from Piechocka easily there. Piechocka is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Bass to escape.

Piechocka wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Bass, who protects the arm well.

Piechocka is trying to get an arm triangle but Bass is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Piechocka is looking to take a break and control but Bass is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Piechocka just content to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bass is trying to improve his position.
The ground and pound from Piechocka seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Piechocka scores with a couple of short elbows.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joanna Piechocka comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Piechocka has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
