PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Simon Tufeksi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lee Everett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tufeksi comes into the arena with Welcome Home blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Simon Tufeksi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lee Everett!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Darius Henderson and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Everett shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Tufeksi counters with a body kick that stops Everett in his tracks momentarily.

Tufeksi clinches with his opponent.

Everett pulls guard.
Everett trying to strike off his back.
Tufeksi trying to control the position from guard on top but Everett is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Everett can do anything to dispel that myth.
Tufeksi postures up in Everett's guard and throws a big left but Everett blocks it.
Everett wants to stand but Tufeksi is controlling the position.
Tufeksi trying to control but Everett is working from the bottom.
Everett is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Tufeksi in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Tufeksi stands and throws Everett's legs to the side, diving into side control.

and Tufeksi cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Tufeksi keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Simon Tufeksi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lee Everett.
Tufeksi fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Everett.

Tufeksi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Everett pinned against the cage. Everett gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Tufeksi swats away the attempt to clinch by Everett.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Tufeksi is looking to clinch but Everett is avoiding it.

Tufeksi closes the distance and pushes Everett back into the cage.
Everett prevents a takedown attempt there.

Tufeksi has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Everett uses from the top position.

Tufeksi manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Everett manages to get himself to full guard.

Tufeksi shoots for a double leg takedown but Everett sprawls well. He's pushed Tufeksi's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Tufeksi shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Tufeksi was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Tufeksi has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Everett!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Tufeksi shoots in but Everett avoids the takedown attempt easily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Everett looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Simon Tufeksi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lee Everett.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Everett is defended easily by Tufeksi.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Everett enables Tufeksi to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Everett manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Everett is trying to control Tufeksi's posture but Tufeksi avoids it.
Tufeksi is looking to take a break and control but Everett is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Everett gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Tufeksi tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Everett is squirming around, avoiding Tufeksi's attempts to control the action.

Tufeksi has hold of Everett's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Everett manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Everett jumps guard but Tufeksi turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

No luck for Everett with that takedown attempt.

Tufeksi tightens his grip and picks Everett up, before dumping him to the ground. Everett manages to land in guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Simon Tufeksi wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Tufeksi shoots in looking for a takedown but Everett manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Tufeksi's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
