PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eric Angle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Heinrich Gulastav (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gulastav has chosen mein herz brennt as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. On his way into the cage it seems that Eric Angle has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Eric Angle seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Eric Angle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Heinrich Gulastav!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Roger Salmon and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Angle keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Gulastav stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Gulastav wants it to stay on the feet.

Angle clinches up against the cage.
Angle tries to break free but Gulastav pushes him back against the cage.
Gulastav lands a shot to the body.
Gulastav can't break the clinch.
A short left from Gulastav.
Gulastav tries a body shot but Angle blocks it.
Gulastav prevents Angle from breaking the clinch.
Gulastav wants to break the clinch but can't.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Angle is trying to break the clinch but Gulastav has him pressed against the cage.
A nice left hand lands by Gulastav.
Gulastav tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Angle's elbow.
Angle wants a takedown but no success here.
Angle is trying to maintain a safe position but Gulastav gets an underhook and turns Angle into the cage.

Gulastav has Angle pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Angle manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Gulastav is trying to force a seperation but Angle has the dominant position.
Angle tries to pull guard but Gulastav forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eric Angle. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Angle is trying to break the clinch but Gulastav has him pressed against the cage.
Gulastav is trying to force a seperation but Angle has the dominant position.
Gulastav stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Angle can't find room to land a body shot as Gulastav controls the action.
Gulastav lands a body shot in the clinch.
Gulastav gets through Angle's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Angle has Gulastav pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Gulastav manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Angle jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Gulastav walks away with a smile on his face. Angle gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Heinrich Gulastav is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gulastav stuns Angle with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Gulastav works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gulastav feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Angles jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Gulastav scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Gulastav scores with a shot to the body.
Gulastav thows a body shot but no joy.
Gulastav swings for the body but Angle moves out of range.
Gulastav bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Angle's head.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Angle.
Angle is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Heinrich Gulastav seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Angle walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Gulastav misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Angle shoots in and drives through. Gulastav sprawls well.
Angle definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Gulastav misses with a jab, cross combination.
Gulastav throws the left hand but Angle avoids the punch easily.
Nice defenses there by Angle.
Gulastav throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Angle tries to circle away but Gulastav has him pinned against the cage.
Gulastav is trying to force a seperation but Angle has the dominant position.
Gulastav tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Angle fails to pull guard.
A nice right hand lands inside from Gulastav.

Angle breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Angle is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Angle drops his hands momentarily and Gulastav takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Gulastav throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Gulastav punishes Angle's body with a nice straight punch.
Angle on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Gulastav misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gulastav clobbers Angle with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Angle. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jab by Gulastav.
Angle throws a right and a left that Gulastav avoids nicely.
Gulastav lands a slapping body shot.
Gulastav is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Nice body punch from Gulastav.
Angle walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Angle ducks under a wild hook from Gulastav.
Gulastav throws a predictable looking body shot

and Angle counters with a nice double leg into side control. Gulastav won't be happy with that.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Gulastav is trying to control Angle's posture but Angle avoids it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Gulastav seems a little lost for a moment, as Angle dominates the positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Gulastav getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gulastav is defended easily by Angle.
Gulastav scores with a hook to the body. Angle takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Gulastav misses the shot to the body.

Angle shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Gulastav felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Angle passes to full mount!
Gulastav tries to reverse the position but Angle maintains control.
Gulastav tries to hold on but Angle pushes him away.

Angle trying to control but Gulastav is having none of it.
Gulastav can't escape the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gulastav can do anything to dispel that myth.

Angle is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Gulastav can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Angle sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Angle wants to get back to his feet but Gulastav is holding on tight.

Gulastav is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Angle looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Angle throws some wild stikes that Gulastav manages to avoid easily.
Gulastav is trying to escape the mount.
Angle punching from mount but Gulastav doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Angle has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Gulastav keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Angle wants to control the pace but Gulastav is squirming around nicely.
Angle is really struggling to control Gulastav but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Gulastav is desperately trying to improve his position but Angle has a good base and remains in mount.
Poor strikes thrown by Angle there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Gulastav wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Eric Angle overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Angle lands punches and elbows.
Gulastav is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Angle wants to control but Gulastav is keeping busy.
Gulastav wants to get back to his feet.
Gulastav covering up well and avoiding damage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
What can Gulastav do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Angle is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Gulastav knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Gulastav for a finish.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Angle looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Angle might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Gulastav trying to control but Angle is working from the bottom.
Gulastav wants to stand but Angle is controlling his posture from full guard.
Angle can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gulastav controls the pace.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Heinrich Gulastav hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Gulastav swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Angle fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eric Angle. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gulastav connects with a right hand. Angle shakes it off.
Gulastav throws a series of punches but Angle avoids them all with ease.
Gulastav works the jab nicely.
Gulastav lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


It looks like Eric Angle has been cut.

Gulastav throws a left jab followed by a right to the body, Oh Angle colapses and takes a barrage of punches from Gulastav as he moves to mount! the ref stops the fight and Angle is left battered and dazed whilst Gulastav and his camp cheer!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Heinrich Gulastav!
Heinrich Gulastav seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
