PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sherwood Montgomery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kasey Puaoi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are George Francis, Cecil Peabody and Robert Twigg.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Puaoi lands with a nice body punch.

Puaoi fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Montgomery, pushing him back against the cage.
Montgomery jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Puaoi walks away with a smile on his face. Montgomery gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Puaoi closes this distance looking for a takedown but Montgomery circles away.
Puaoi swats away the attempt to clinch by Montgomery.
Montgomery throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Puaoi shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Montgomery eats them both and turns towards Puaoi to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

It looks like Sherwood Montgomery has been cut.
Kasey Puaoi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Montgomery tries a head kick but it misses.
Montgomery shoots in looking for a takedown. Puaoi tries to sprawl out of it but Montgomery keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Puaoi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Montgomery displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Puaoi.

Montgomery really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Puaoi stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Puaoi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Puaoi thows a huge punch but Montgomery dodges it nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Montgomery dives in for a single leg takedown but Puaoi sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Horrible takedown by Puaoi or perhaps it was just good defense by Montgomery which made him look bad.

Kasey Puaoi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Montgomery misses the body punch
and Puaoi counters with a left and a right that stings Montgomery.
Puaoi misses with a takedown attempt - Montgomery sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Puaoi breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Puaoi tries to bum rush Montgomery with a series of wild strikes but Montgomery uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Montgomery wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Puaoi has him pressed against the cage.

A frustrated look appears on Montgomery's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Puaoi fails with the takedown

and Montgomery counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Puaoi!
Montgomery throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Montgomery creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Puaoi sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Montgomery in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Puaoi tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Montgomery wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Montgomery is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Puaoi will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sherwood Montgomery.
Well Puaoi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
