PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jae Wong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Honda Housey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jae Wong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Honda Housey!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wong keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Housey.
Housey throws a right hand that Wong ducks under and follows up with a left that Wong also avoids with ease.
Wong throws a right and a left that both miss.

Wong bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Housey's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Housey manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Wong is working for a kimura but Housey is defending it quite comfortably.
Housey blocking the ground and pound attempt from Wong.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wong looks to land a strike but Housey avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Wong with a nice head shot there.
Wong throwing strikes from guard but Housey blocks nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wong is looking to work some ground and pound but Housey has wrist control.
Wong throws a big elbow that misses.
Housey trying to keep a closed guard but Wong is proving a slippery customer.
Wong is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wong postures up in Housey's guard and throws a big left but Housey blocks it.
Wong content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Housey not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Honda Housey has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Housey dives in and scores a takedown into Wong's guard.
Wong has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Wong's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jae Wong.
Wong throws a wild body kick that Housey sees coming a mile off.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Wong enables Housey to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Wong manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Wong is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Wong knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Housey on the ground.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Wong throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jae Wong dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A big right from Housey misses.
Housey uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Housey throws out a loose jab but Wong uses good head movement to avoid it.
Wong pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Housey scores with a hook to the body. Wong takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Housey gets caught flat footed, as Wong shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Wong throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Housey works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Wong postures up.

Wong got a little sloppy there for a moment and Housey has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wong has managed to get both his arms back between Housey's legs - danger averted.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Housey is trying to control the position but Wong postures up.
Wong will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Honda Housey has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Wong moves into the clinch.
Wong doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
The referee is keeping an eye on Wong - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Housey tries to break free but Wong pushes him back against the cage.
Wong has Housey pressed against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Wong drags the fight down to the ground.
Housey looking to pass the guard.
Wong pulls Housey in close to prevent any damage.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Jae Wong has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
A decent looking cross lands there for Housey.
Housey connects with a body shot.
Housey misses with a double jab.
Housey lands with a right that hurts Wong. Wong looks to clinch but Housey throws a short knee that drops Wong. This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch and Knee). Honda Housey!
