PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dustin Gadd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oswaldo Mancillas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dustin Gadd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Oswaldo Mancillas!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Mancillas as Gadd shoots in.

Mancillas darts in and clinches Gadd up against the ropes.
Mancillas gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Gadd.
Gadd tries to pull guard but Mancillas won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dustin Gadd. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mancillas can't get the takedown.

Mancillas pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mancillas misses with a takedown

and Gadd counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Mancillas's guard now.
Gadd tries to free his leg and advance position but Mancillas is retaining full guard.

Gadd wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mancillas keeps working.
Mancillas won't allow Gadd to pass to mount.

Gadd tries to free his leg and advance position but Mancillas is retaining full guard.
Mancillas looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Mancillas looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Mancillas is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Gadd wants to improve his position but Mancillas is controlling well.
Gadd keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Mancillas seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gadd does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round but I would say that Dustin Gadd will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.

Gadd trying to control but Mancillas is working from the bottom.
Gadd is pushing down on Mancillas's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mancillas is fighting to maintain full guard but Gadd has managed to sneak the leg through.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Gadd tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Mancillas.

Gadd is looking for a kimura but Mancillas is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gadd to get the leverage.
Mancillas works his way to full guard. Good work.
Gadd would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Mancillas wants to sweep but no luck.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Mancillas closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes.
Mancillas drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Gadd gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Mancillas wants to break the clinch but can't.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gadd tries to pull guard but Mancillas won't allow it.

Gadd escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mancillas moves in looking to clinch but Gadd pushes him off.
Mancillas circles away from the clinch attempt
and Mancillas counters with a straight right hand.
Gadd tries to bum rush Mancillas with a series of wild strikes but Mancillas uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Gadd keeps the fight on the outside.
Gadd lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Mancillas backs up against the ropes.
Mancillas looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Gadd fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mancillas sprawls well initially but Gadd persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Gadd tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mancillas knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Gadd is just content to waste time from the top position. Mancillas takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mancillas lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Mancillas is not content to let Gadd control the position.

Gadd wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mancillas, who protects the arm well.

Mancillas tries to buck Gadd off but Gadd is having none of it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Gadd tries to move to mount but Mancillas blocks the move with his legs.

Gadd has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Mancillas!

Mancillas is desperately trying to improve his position but Gadd has a good base and remains in mount.

Gadd shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mancillas's guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Mancillas is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Gadd wants to stand up but Mancillas is controlling the position.

Gadd pushes down on Mancillas's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Mancillas is looking for a sweep. Gadd is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Gadd is landing with some decent strikes but Mancillas is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Gadd is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Gadd shoots for a takedown but Mancillas saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Mancillas is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Gadd has managed to free his arm - good work.

Gadd is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Mancillas pulls his head out easily.

Mancillas is looking to take a break and control but Gadd is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Gadd working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mancillas doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mancillas manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

I think Gadd has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
