PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Abraham Hubbard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Master (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Abraham Hubbard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nick Master!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hubbard tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Master defends well and Hubbard ends up having to push Master into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Master has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Hubbard is trying to keep an underhook but Master manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Master thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hubbard's head.
Hubbard desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Master is thwarting Hubbard's attempts to control the position.
Hubbard tries to roll over but Master keeps him under control.
Hubbard has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Master is working away from the top position though.
Hubbard tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Hubbard blocking the ground and pound attempt from Master.

Hubbard misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Hubbard throws a strike from the bottom but Master passes into side control!
Hubbard really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
You can see the frustration on Hubbard's face as Master controls the position.
Master wants to control but Hubbard is keeping him busy.
Master throws a strike aimed at the side of Hubbard's head but Hubbard avoids it well.
A lull in the action here as Master stalls from top position.

Master tries to advance to mount but can't.

Nick Master has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Hubbard throws a body punch but Master moves out of range.
Master stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Master wants it to stay on the feet.

Master manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hubbard on his heels. He'll look to pass Hubbard's guard now, I'm sure.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Master passes into half guard.
Master is trying to control the action in half guard but Hubbard is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Master stands up and beckons Hubbard to join him on the feet.
Master walks into a stiff left hand from Hubbard.

Master fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hubbard to the ground. Master is now in Hubbard's guard.

Master has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hubbard is proving hard to escape from.

Master throwing shots but missing, from side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hubbard manages to work his way to half guard, despite Master's best efforts.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hubbard regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Master.
Hubbard throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Master dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Master gets the takedown into side control.
Master throws a strike aimed at the side of Hubbard's head but Hubbard avoids it well.

You can see the frustration on Hubbard's face as Master controls the position.
Master working the strikes but Hubbard uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Master tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Master is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Hubbard wants to control but Master is keeping busy.

Master is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Master tries to stand but can't do so whilst Hubbard controls his leg.
Hubbard keeping hold of Master's head, controlling as best he can.

Master is working for a kimura but Hubbard is defending it quite comfortably.
Nick Master has got the better of the ground game so far.
Master wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hubbard keeps working.

Hubbard keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Hubbard is looking for a sweep. Master is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Hubbard is working hard here to advance position.
Master is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Master gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Master shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Hubbard tries to get to full guard but Master has control of the leg.
Master wants to control but Hubbard is keeping him busy.
Hubbard scores with a few weak punches.
Hubbard wants to control but Master is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Master not doing much here.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Master's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Nick Master has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Master takes a jab right on the kisser.
Hubbard blocks a head kick by Master.

Master gets a clinch.
Hubbard tries to land a knee to the head but Master blocks with his arms.

Master wants the takedown. Hubbard is fighting it off but Master persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Hubbard's guard against the cage.
Master is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hubbard is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Master passes Hubbard's left leg - he's now in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Master showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Master clinches up against the cage.
Master keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Hubbard's efforts to push away.
Hubbard tries to break free but Master pushes him back against the cage.

Master lands a takedown into guard.
Master passes Hubbard's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Hubbard wants to control but Master is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Hubbard is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Master is trying to work for a kimura but Hubbard is defending well.
Master wants to stand but Hubbard has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hubbard is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Master's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Master's back!

Hubbard tries to get the hooks in deep but Master pushed the leg off.

Hubbard has the hooks in. Master is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Hubbard will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Master is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

You can see the frustration on Master's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Master takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Master tries to escape but Hubbard has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Master tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Hubbard is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Master has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nick Master comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Master has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
