Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ryan Conner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leandro Hughes!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Emerson Jorge and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Hughes fails to land the takedown.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hughes works over Conner with some ground and pound from guard.

Conner is trying to keep Hughes in close.
Hughes stands up over Conner, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Conner knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hughes on the ground.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hughes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Hughes throws a big elbow that misses.
Conner controls Hughes momentarily but Hughes frees himself.
Conner has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Hughes throws a big right hand that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Conner looking to control.
Hughes makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Conner is pulling down on Hughes's head. It's preventing any offense from Hughes, at least for the moment.

Conner looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Conner is trying to keep Hughes in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hughes connects with a couple of short punches.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hughes passes into half guard.
Hughes slips a nice elbow through Conner's hands, connecting with Conner's forehead.
Hughes throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Hughes has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Conner is looking to control Hughes's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Conner avoid being mounted?
Conner is controlling Hughes's trapped leg to prevent Hughes from advancing to side control.

Hughes wants to work for an arm triangle but Conner is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Hughes looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Conner with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Hughes moves nicely into side control.
Conner takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Hughes working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Conner tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hughes wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hughes postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Hughes in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Conner on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Conner tries to get out of the position.
Conner dodges the ground and pound from Hughes.
Hughes is working Conner over with some ground and pound from side control.

Conner wants to control but Hughes postures up.
Conner is looking to reverse the position.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hughes connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Conner some visible discomfort.


Conner is rocked!
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Hughes working his ground and pound in the gym.
Hughes cracks Conner with a big right hand but Conner just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Oh Conner is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hughes lands a big left to the face of Conner, bouncing his head like a basketball. Another shot from Hughes and another - Conner is out! Hughes stands up and salutes his fans, who are going crazy in the stands.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Leandro Hughes!
During a confident post fight interview, Leandro Hughes thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
