PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Dawson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dawson's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, m.A.A.d city. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryan Dawson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Anthony Pettis!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dawson rushes Pettis and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Pettis pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Pettis keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Pettis shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Dawson gets tackled into the cage by Pettis. Pettis maintains the clinch.
Pettis jumps guard but Dawson turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Pettis breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dawson slaps away a takedown attempt from Pettis, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Ryan Dawson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anthony Pettis.
Dawson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Dawson wants it to stay on the feet.

Dawson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pettis sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Dawson somewhat.

Dawson has Pettis pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Pettis manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Dawson is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Pettis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Dawson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Dawson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Dawson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pettis on the ground.

Dawson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Pettis sprawls well. Pettis wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Dawson gets slowly back to his feet.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Pettis is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Dawson gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Pettis is looking to get back to full guard here but Dawson has managed to pass to side control instead.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
