PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Calvin Bean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Last Samurai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Last Samurai acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Calvin Bean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Last Samurai!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shirou Masuda and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Samurai.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Bean is being controlled here.
The strikes coming from Samurai are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Bean keeps Samurai under control for a moment.
Samurai wants to stand but Bean is controlling his arm.
Samurai controls the position from side control.
Bean holding on.
The referee asks Samurai politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Samurai prefers to stall for the moment though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Samurai tries to stand but Bean is controlling his head.
Bean is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Samurai has just dragged him back down to the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Bean tries for a takedown but Samurai sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Samurai moves into range and clinches up with Bean.

Samurai works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Samurai trying to control but Bean is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Bean is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Samurai trying to control the position from guard on top but Bean is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Last Samurai has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Samurai bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bean holding on.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Samurai tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Samurai lands some shots froms side control.
You can see the frustration on Bean's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Bean gets back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Samurai tries to pass the half guard into mount. Bean knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Bean is trying to maintain the position but Samurai is very close to passing his half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Samurai is working for a submission of some sort.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Last Samurai dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Bean is staying active underneath Samurai, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Samurai working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Well, if Samurai is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

We're going to have a standup here because Calvin Bean wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Samurai lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


It looks like Calvin Bean has been cut.
Samurai defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bean.
Samurai pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Samurai misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Bean.

Samurai gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Samurai manages to break the clinch.

Samurai shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Samurai content to control rather than advance.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Let's hope that Samurai has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Bean is refusing to be controlled, as Samurai sits in half guard.
Samurai is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Samurai lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Bean hang on?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

BOOM! Samurai connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Samurai controlling the pace for now.
Samurai can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Bean is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Last Samurai showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Calvin Bean's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Samurai shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Samurai showed some decent athleticism there.
Bean is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Samurai scores with a couple of nice shots.
Bean preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Samurai perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Last Samurai wasn't active enough on the ground.

Samurai darts in and clinches Bean up against the cage.
Bean really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Bean is trying to stall.
Bean stalling in the clinch.

Samurai breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Bean doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Samurai holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Samurai working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Samurai can't find room to land a body shot as Bean controls the action.

Samurai manages to pull guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Samurai can do anything to dispel that myth.

Samurai looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Bean is fighting to break Samurai's control of his arms but Samurai is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Bean throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Samurai works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Samurai doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Samurai isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Bean stacks Samurai on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Bean!

Bean gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Samurai takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Samurai drives through with a takedown into Bean's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Samurai must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Bean manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Samurai manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Bean will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Samurai tries to get to full guard but Bean has control of the leg.

Last Samurai comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Samurai has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
