PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fred Duncan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Cage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Antonio Cage told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Fred Duncan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Antonio Cage!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cage closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The strikes coming from Cage are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Cage tries to advance to mount but can't.
Cage lands a nice forearm strike.
Duncan takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Cage tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Cage has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Cage in side control lands a decent elbow.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Cage decides to stand back up. Cage steps back and let's Duncan get back to his feet.

Cage has Duncan up against the cage in a clinch.
Cage has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Duncan after a bit of a struggle.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Duncan is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Duncan tries to pull guard but Cage forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Duncan is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Cage to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fred Duncan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cage wants to take the fight to the mat but Duncan manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Cage is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Duncan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Duncan pulls guard successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cage stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Duncan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Cage trying to control the position from guard on top but Duncan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cage throws a strike but Duncan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Cage wants to sweep here but Duncan controlling him for the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Cage is looking for a triangle but Duncan pushes his legs off easily.

Duncan has gone for a leg lock! Cage slips out almost immediately though and dives into Duncan's guard.
Cage must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Cage throws an elbow that misses. Duncan uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cage's guard. Nice move by Duncan!
Cage has momentary wrist control but Duncan slips an elbow through the middle.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Duncan is working Cage over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Cage wants to control the position but Duncan says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Cage is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Duncan jumps into side control!
Cage can't do much from the bottom here.
Cage tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.

Duncan is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Cage has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Cage!
Cage passes Duncan's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Cage thows an elbow strike that misses. Duncan gets hold of full guard and has managed to get a loose guillotine attempt. Cage doesn't seem too bothered but Duncan quickly shifts his position and has tightened the hold! Cage is in big trouble now - he's going a funny colour - he's tapping out! Nice finish there! Cage really should have spotted the danger earlier though... either incompetence or over-confidence has resulted in a big L on his record.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Fred Duncan!
