PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Calvin Bean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ace Striker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Calvin Bean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ace Striker!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Striker is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Bean's half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Bean controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Striker tries to pass the half guard into mount. Bean knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Bean blocking the ground and pound attempt from Striker.
Striker is looking to stall here but Bean recovers full guard.
Bean avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Striker trying to control the position from guard on top but Bean is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Striker controlling from the top position.
Striker trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Bean manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Bean wants to stand but Striker is controlling his posture from full guard.
Striker is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Striker looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bean is one step ahead there.

Striker is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Bean presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Bean trying to stall but Striker improves his position.
Bean misses with a punch to the body.

Striker gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Bean pulls Striker in to control the position.
Striker looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Striker trying to stand up but can't free himself from Bean's guard.
Bean will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Striker trying to control but Bean is working from the bottom.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ace Striker wasn't active enough on the ground.
Bean fails with the takedown
enabling Striker to counter with a crisp jab.
Ace Striker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Striker closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Striker lands in his opponent's guard.
Bean controls Striker momentarily but Striker frees himself.
Striker throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bean works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Striker looking to sit in guard and control but Bean gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bean postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ace Striker dominated that round.

Striker darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Bean is refusing to be controlled, as Striker sits in half guard.
Bean is doing well to control the position and prevent Striker from advancing to side control.
Striker wants to take a breather but Bean is having none of it.
Bean keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Striker missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Striker gets a takedown into half guard.
Bean is trying to get back to full guard.
Bean trying to hold on to Striker's head to control him but Striker postures up.
Bean is not content to let Striker control the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Bean closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Ace Striker has got the better of the ground game so far.

Bean wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Striker, who protects the arm well.
Striker wants to control but Bean postures up.

Striker is trying to improve his position.
Striker manages to get back to half guard.
Striker has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bean is working away from the top position though.
Bean throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Striker wants to improve his position but Bean is controlling well.

Striker looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Bean is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Striker has managed to free his arm - good work.
Striker is looking for a sweep. Bean is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Striker trying to get back to full guard but Bean takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Striker is working to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ace Striker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Bean fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Bean shoots for a double leg takedown but Striker sprawls well. He's pushed Bean's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Striker drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bean is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Striker tries to free his leg and advance position but Bean is retaining full guard.
Striker is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Striker must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Striker missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Striker wants to stand but Bean has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Striker controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Ace Striker has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Striker closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Bean to the mat! Bean manages to get full guard.
Striker trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Striker trying to control but Bean is working from the bottom.
Striker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bean swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ace Striker hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Bean fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Calvin Bean. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Striker bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Bean prevents Striker from moving into mount.

Striker is trying to get an arm triangle but Bean is defending well.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Striker thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Bean holds on to Striker's head and controls the position momentarily.
Bean pushes Striker away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Striker gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Striker postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Striker remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Bean dodges the ground and pound from Striker.

Striker decides to take the fight back to the feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Striker drives through with a takedown into guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ace Striker comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Striker winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
