The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meridius is looking to clinch.
Nichols avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Meridius closes the distance and clinches.
Meridius creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Nichols's defenses.
Meridius throws an elbow that misses.
Nichols tries to break free but Meridius pushes him back against the cage.

Nichols tries to break the clinch but Meridius is controlling the position.

Meridius dodges the punch combination from Nichols.
Nichols avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Nichols swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Nichols connects with a crisp jab.

It looks like Maximus Meridius has been cut.
Nichols pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Meridius back to the cage. Nichols follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Meridius fails in his attempt to clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Meridius looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Nichols fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Meridius on the side of the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sloppy strikes from Nichols. Those never looked like landing.
Meridius should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Nichols lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Meridius circles away quickly and effectively.
Meridius takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Meridius walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

That has opened up Maximus Meridius's cut even more.

Nichols drops Meridius with a big left hand and mounts him. Meridius is in big trouble!

Meridius is rocked!
Nichols sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Nichols throwing strikes here but Meridius is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Nichols will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Nichols postures up and throws a massive shot that knocks Meridius out cold! Two more strikes to his unconscious opponent for good luck and this one is all over! Nichols goes absolutely crazy with his corner! Wow, you can see how much that win means to him!
