PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christian Alkofer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Smith might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Smoke the Fire. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Donatello Bradman and Bruno Hogan.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Alkofer manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Smith scores with a jab to the head.
Alkofer shoots in but Smith avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Smith lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Alkofer circles away quickly and effectively.
Smith tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Alkofer shoots in looking for a takedown but Smith manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Alkofer's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Alkofer shoots in but Smith avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Johnny Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Christian Alkofer.
Alkofer avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and Smith counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Smith leaves Alkofer with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Alkofer drives through with a takedown into Smith's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Smith manages to get back to half guard.

Smith is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Alkofer is aware though and is defending well.

Alkofer keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Smith's head.

Alkofer lands a few punches from side control.

Alkofer tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Alkofer has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Smith is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Alkofer frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Alkofer goes for an armbar but Smith turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Smith.
Smith is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Smith stands up and waves to Alkofer to follow him.
Smith misses with a double jab.
Smith misses with a head kick.
Smith throws the kick towards the body but Alkofer avoids it.

Smith misses with a takedown attempt - Alkofer sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Alkofer gets the takedown into side control.
Alkofer scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Smith to see if he's OK.

Alkofer tries for a kimura but Smith is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Alkofer is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Smith has escaped the position, nice work there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Alkofer has hold of Smith's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Smith tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Alkofer cranks the arm and Smith screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Smith, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
