PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Monument Obelix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Psycho Boy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Obelix comes to the cage accompanied by i'm stupid. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Monument Obelix!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Psycho Boy!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boy thuds his right hand into Obelix's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Boy looks to throw the jab but Obelix is out of range.
Obelix looks for a takedown but Boy sprawls well.
Obelix fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Boy avoids it really well and circles away.
Boy keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Monument Obelix. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boy ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Obelix moves away.
Obelix looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Boy scores with a jab. Obelix acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Boy will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Obelix closes the distance but Boy moves to the side
and Boy counters with a two punch combo.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Obelix tries for a takedown but Boy circles away easily
and Boy counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.


Obelix is rocked!
Psycho Boy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Obelix dodges the punch combination from Boy.
Boy misses with a double jab.
Obelix misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
The fighters circle momentarily. Boy darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Obelix gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Oh Obelix is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Boy throws a low kick but it's checked well by Obelix.
Obelix seems to have got his legs back now.
Obelix fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Obelix. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Obelix misses with a body kick.
Boy misses with a few strikes there.
Obelix defending well as Boy loads up on a big left hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Obelix tries to clinch up but Boy circles away and keeps his distance.
Obelix tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Boy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Obelix checks a low kick from Boy.
Boy jabs at Obelix's body.
Boy throws a sloppy head kick and Obelix moves out of range easily.

Boy shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Obelix's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Boy makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Boy slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Obelix is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Boy is aware though and is defending well.
Obelix is breathing heavily.
Boy trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Obelix manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Boy holds on and takes a little breather.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Boy looking to hit a scissor sweep but Obelix is one step ahead there.
Obelix wants to stand but Boy has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Psycho Boy.
Obelix takes one to the side of the head.
Boy looks to land a right hand but Obelix moved out of range.
Obelix fails with a takedown attempt.
Obelix dives in and grabs Boy's left leg, looking for a takedown. Boy pushes down on Obelix's head and hops out.
Obelix on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Boy circles away from the clinch attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Boy feints and as Obelix raises his hands in defense, Boy changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Obelix has his foot on Boy's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Boy works his way back into a safe position though.
Boy makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Psycho Boy dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Boy scores with a hook to the body. Obelix takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Boy with a nice cross.

Obelix gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Boy to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Obelix being controlled here, momentarily.
Boy is working Obelix over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Boy scoring with some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Boy advances position into side control!
Obelix takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Boy wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Obelix, who protects the arm well.
Obelix sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Boy looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Boy is looking for a kimura but Obelix is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Boy to get the leverage.
Obelix tries to roll over but Boy keeps him under control.
Boy sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Boy looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Obelix with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Boy keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Boy trying to mount his opponent but Obelix defends it.
Obelix taking some punishment here, with Boy in his half guard.
Boy has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Boy lands a nice short elbow.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Obelix looks like he's trying to stand up.
Boy winds up and cracks Obelix with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Obelix actively working from the bottom here.
Boy slips a nice elbow through Obelix's hands, connecting with Obelix's forehead.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Boy in particular looking to stall.
Boy landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Obelix wants to get back to full guard.
Boy perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Boy is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Obelix sees it coming and defends easily.
Psycho Boy has got the better of the ground game so far.
Boy working Obelix over with strikes.
Boy landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Boy passes to side control.
Boy working the ground and pound.

Boy working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Boy is looking to take a break and control but Obelix is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Boy lands a nice forearm strike.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Obelix throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
The referee asks Boy politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Boy prefers to stall for the moment though.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Obelix is pushing Boy's head away, looking to escape. Boy manages to hold on to the position though.
Boy wants to control but Obelix is keeping him busy.
Boy creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Psycho Boy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Obelix's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Obelix tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Boy paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A head kick misses from Obelix.
Obelix gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Obelix tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Boy walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Obelix checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Boy defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Obelix.
Boy connects with a right hand. Obelix shakes it off.

Obelix gets tackled into the cage by Boy. Boy maintains the clinch.
Obelix fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Obelix is trying to drag Boy to the mat but Boy just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Monument Obelix. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Obelix is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Obelix stops a takedown attempt from Boy.
Obelix is looking to control Boy's arms but Boy gets an underhook and turns him. Now Obelix has his back to the cage.

Obelix gets control of Boy's arms and successfully pulls guard. Obelix will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Boy controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boy looking to sit in guard and control but Obelix gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Boy wants to sweep here but Obelix controlling him for the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Psycho Boy.
Boy blocks a low kick nicely.
Boy uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Obelix has time to react.
Boy keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Boy scores with a jab. Obelix acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Boy lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A combination from Boy does no damage.

Boy drops Obelix with a beautiful combination! Obelix stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Boy is looking for the KO!
Boy fakes the leg kick and throws a superman punch. It's knocked Obelix out cold! Brutal finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Psycho Boy!
Psycho Boy decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
