PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ray Marsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bud Light (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Light has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Bud Light acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ray Marsh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bud Light!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Light tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Marsh swivels and escapes.
Light looks winded!
Marsh misses with a takedown attempt - Light sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A head kick by Light misses
and Marsh counters with a nice kick to the body.
Light slaps away a takedown attempt from Marsh, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Marsh throws a head kick that half lands.

Marsh shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Marsh content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Marsh is keen to just control but Light is a slippery customer.
Marsh perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ray Marsh wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Light gets caught flat footed, as Marsh shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Marsh trying to control but Light is working from the bottom.
Marsh postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Marsh throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Ray Marsh just wasn't active enough.

Marsh throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Light tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Marsh is in Light's guard.
Marsh wants to stand but Light is controlling his posture from full guard.
Marsh has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Light keeping moving, preventing Marsh from controlling successfully.

Light is working an open guard so Marsh takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Marsh has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Marsh is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Marsh shoots in looking for a takedown but Light manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Marsh's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

and Marsh decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Light's guard.

Bud Light seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Marsh tries to clinch but Light is having none of it.
Light is breathing heavily.
Marsh lets loose with a powerful body kick. Light will feel that in the morning.

Marsh dives in and grabs Light's left leg, looking for a takedown. Light pushes down on Marsh's head and hops out.

Marsh fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Light manages to avoid it.
Marsh swats away the attempt to clinch by Light.
Marsh darts in looking for a takedown but Light gets double underhooks and turns Marsh into the cage.
Light prevents a body shot from Marsh.

Marsh ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Marsh no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Light must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Marsh throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Ray Marsh overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Marsh is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Light can do to turn this around?

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Light throws a big right hand that misses.
Light really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Marsh. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Marsh has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Light is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Light takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Marsh tries to score a power double leg takedown but Light sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Marsh somewhat.

Marsh feints and as Light raises his hands in defense, Marsh changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Marsh moves into range and connects with a jab.

Light keeping moving, preventing Marsh from controlling successfully.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Marsh stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Marsh wants it to stay on the feet.

Marsh escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Marsh has one foot on Light's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Marsh changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Light tries to avoid it but Marsh manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Light to the ground. Light escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Light fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Marsh, pushing him back against the cage.
Marsh tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Marsh misses with a hook to the ribs.
Marsh is looking for a takedown.

Light gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Light trying to pass the guard but Marsh defending well.

Light throwing shots but Marsh is blocking nicely.
Light is looking to pass Marsh's guard but actually Marsh recovers to full guard.

Marsh is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Light frees his head nicely. Oh but Marsh has switched to an armbar! Light is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
