PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ben Cohen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rohan Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ben Cohen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Rohan Khan!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Atkins and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cohen.

Khan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Khan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Cohen wants to get back to his feet but Khan drags him back down.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Khan looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Cohen is trying to get back to full guard.

Khan wants to pass the guard but Cohen is defending well.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Khan in particular looking to stall.

Cohen has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Khan is working away from the top position though.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Khan shoots in and bounces Cohen off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Cohen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Khan is controlling him.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rohan Khan was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Cohen gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Cohen wants to get back to his feet but Khan is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Cohen is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Khan defends well.
Cohen wants to stand up but Khan is controlling him.
Cohen is breathing heavily.
Khan's corner is telling him to maintain position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Rohan Khan hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Khan scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cohen is trying to control but can't.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rohan Khan dominated that round.

Khan darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Cohen scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Khan manages to mount him!
Cohen is in all sorts of trouble here.

Khan won't let Cohen get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

You get the feeling that Cohen really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cohen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Let's hope that Khan has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Rohan Khan.
Cohen throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Khan shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Rohan Khan hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Cohen shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Khan but Khan pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Khan shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Khan is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Cohen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Khan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Khan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Khan shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Cohen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Khan stays in close to Cohen's body and controls the position.

Rohan Khan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Khan fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Cohen to the ground. Khan is now in Cohen's guard.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Cohen.

Khan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Cohen is trying to stand up here but Khan is controlling him well.

Cohen really wants to buck Khan off and get back to his feet.

Well Khan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
