PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Der Debil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Byron Benjamin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Byron Benjamin was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Der Debil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Byron Benjamin!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Bart Greer and Michael Johnstone.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Debil tried to score with a low kick but Benjamin checks it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Benjamin. Debil does a little dance to reset his feet.
Benjamin displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Debil.
Debil misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Debil closes the distance and clinches up with Benjamin, looking for a takedown. Debil pushes Benjamin against the cage but Benjamin circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Der Debil. That's going to take a lot out of him.
No luck for Debil with that takedown attempt.

Benjamin rushes Debil and presses him up against the cage.
Debil avoids a wild elbow strike from Benjamin.

Benjamin breaks the clinch.
Debil tries to clinch up but Benjamin circles away and keeps his distance.
Benjamin throws a nice looking combination but Debil bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Benjamin connects with a jab.

It looks like Der Debil has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Debil takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Debil misses with a takedown attempt - Benjamin sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Benjamin takes the fight into the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Debil has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Benjamin is trying to keep an underhook but Debil manages to get the takedown into half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Debil moves into full mount! Benjamin won't be happy about that!

Debil has hold of Benjamin's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Benjamin manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Debil is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Benjamin is surviving well by controlling Debil's body position as best he can.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Benjamin holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Debil tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Debil working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Benjamin looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Debil! Submission of the night perhaps?
