PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jean Robles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danny Aioki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jean Robles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Danny Aioki!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Robles throws a sloppy head kick and Aioki moves out of range easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Robles.
Robles really is a fat lump.

Robles shoots in and gets a takedown into Aioki's guard.
Aioki controls Robles momentarily but Robles frees himself.
Aioki keeping moving, preventing Robles from controlling successfully.
Robles is really struggling to control Aioki but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jean Robles just wasn't active enough.
Robles sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Good leg kick by Aioki there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Aioki tries to clinch there but Robles circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Aioki wants to clinch.
A nice leg kick lands there from Aioki.
Aioki lands a head kick. Robles smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Robles gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Aioki gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Aioki scores with a nice right hand.

and Robles counters with a three punch combo that has Aioki backing up. Aioki nods at Robles to acknowledge the strikes.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Aioki.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Robles stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Robles wants it to stay on the feet.
Jean Robles has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Danny Aioki.
Aioki looks winded!
Aioki is looking to clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Aioki is defended easily by Robles.
Aioki falls off balance throwing a combination
and Robles counters with a head kick. That will keep Aioki thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Robles really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...
Robles throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Aioki's waist but Aioki gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Robles off to one side.

Aioki dives in and scores a takedown into Robles's guard.

Robles is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Robles is trying to pull guard but Aioki turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Aioki has Robles pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Aioki pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Robles tumbling to the mat - Aioki dives into Robles's guard.

Aioki loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Robles wants to stand but Aioki is controlling the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Danny Aioki.
Aioki throws a nice inside leg kick.
No luck for Aioki with that takedown attempt.
Aioki closes the distance but Robles moves to the side
and Robles counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Aioki is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Robles moves out of range of the body kick.
Danny Aioki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Robles steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Aioki. That one must have hurt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Robles doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Aioki counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Aioki fails to land the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Danny Aioki dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Aioki closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Aioki lands in his opponent's guard.
Aioki distracts Robles with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Robles doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Robles will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Robles is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Robles throws a couple of heel strikes.
Aioki throwing strikes but missing.
Aioki postures up.
Aioki wants to control from the top but Robles keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Robles throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Robles looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Danny Aioki was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Aioki scores with a jab.
Robles shoots for a takedown but Aioki saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Aioki misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Aioki shoots in and bounces Robles off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Robles manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Robles pulls guard successfully.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Aioki sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Aioki pushes down on Robles's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Robles wants to control but Aioki is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Aioki seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Aioki is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Aioki blocks the strikes from Robles.
Aioki trying to advance position but Robles counters by regaining guard.
Aioki slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Aioki working his ground and pound in the gym.

Aioki decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Aioki.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Check out the look on Aioki's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Aioki is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Robles will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Robles is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Aioki is controlling him well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Robles tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Aioki working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Aioki has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Robles! Can he survive? No! He's out! Aioki gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Danny Aioki!
