PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Frazier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matija Marinic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Mike Frazier has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Mike Frazier seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mike Frazier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Matija Marinic!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Michael Johnstone and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marinic shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Frazier napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Frazier tries to bench press Marinic off him but Marinic keeps the position.
Marinic lands a decent elbow from side control.
Marinic working the ground and pound but Frazier is defending the strikes.

Marinic has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Marinic displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Frazier.
Nice shot lands for Frazier.


It looks like Matija Marinic has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Marinic lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Frazier at a distance.
Marinic walks into a jab.
Marinic shoots in but no luck this time.
Marinic lands a high kick!


It looks like Mike Frazier has been cut.
Marinic tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Marinic moves forwards but Frazier connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Frazier throws a right hand that Marinic ducks under and follows up with a left that Marinic also avoids with ease.
Frazier misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Marinic tries to score a power double leg takedown but Frazier sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Marinic somewhat.

Mike Frazier has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matija Marinic.

Marinic bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Frazier could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
You can see the frustration on Frazier's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Marinic creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Frazier sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Marinic looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Marinic decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Frazier goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Marinic fails with an attempt to clinch.
Frazier lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Marinic wants to clinch up but Frazier keeps it at a distance.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Frazier feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Marinics jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Frazier shoots in looking for a takedown. Marinic tries to sprawl out of it but Frazier keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Marinic manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Marinic throws a left and a right that both miss

and Frazier counters with a leg kick then a big left hand that sends Marinic down! Frazier is looking to finish but Marinic is intelligently defending himself.


Marinic is rocked!


That has opened up Matija Marinic's cut even more.
Frazier will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Frazier works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Marinic looks winded!

Frazier tries to pass to full mount but Marinic defends it.

Frazier is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Marinic throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Frazier is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mike Frazier will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's time! Back to the action!


Nice uppercut there from Frazier.

Marinic closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Marinic lands in his opponent's guard.
Frazier can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Marinic controls the pace.

Marinic got a little sloppy there for a moment and Frazier has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Marinic has managed to get both his arms back between Frazier's legs - danger averted.
Frazier has a closed guard, preventing Marinic from standing up.

Frazier looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Marinic tries to free his leg and advance position but Frazier is retaining full guard.
Frazier can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Marinic controls the pace.
Marinic must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Marinic decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Frazier, up you get!
Marinic tries to close the distance and clinch but Frazier swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Marinic lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Marinic is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Marinic slips nicely into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Marinic in particular looking to stall.
Let's hope that Marinic has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Frazier is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Marinic wants to pass to mount but Frazier is defending the position.

Frazier is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Marinic pulls his head out easily.
Marinic wants to free his trapped foot but Frazier is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Marinic wants to lay and pray for a moment but Frazier keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matija Marinic showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Frazier's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Marinic. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Frazier throws a left that rocks Marinic and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Frazier dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Marinic regain composure!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Marinic can't do much from the bottom here.

Frazier tries for a kimura but Marinic is defending well.

Marinic takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Marinic is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Frazier off and has taken his back!
Frazier breaks Marinic's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Marinic will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Frazier sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Marinic's guard.

Frazier seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Marinic is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:21 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Mike Frazier!
