PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Elias Steele (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arthur Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Santos has chosen Hey Brother as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Elias Steele!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Arthur Santos!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Paulo Santos and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Santos moves into the clinch successfully.

Steele blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Santos changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Steele tries to avoid it but Santos manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Steele to the ground. Steele escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Santos forces Steele back against the cage and clinches.
Steele wants to get back to striking at distance but Santos won't allow it.

Steele breaks from the clinch.

Santos jumps guard but Steele turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Steele is pressed up against the cage. Santos has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Steele down to the mat. Steele avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Elias Steele has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Arthur Santos.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Santos is fighting to break Steele's control of his arms but Steele is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Santos got a little sloppy there for a moment and Steele has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Santos has managed to get both his arms back between Steele's legs - danger averted.

Santos stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Steele darts in looking for a takedown but Santos gets double underhooks and turns Steele into the cage.

Santos's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Steele takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Steele gets tackled into the cage by Santos. Santos maintains the clinch.
Steele is trying to force a seperation but Santos has the dominant position.
Santos wants to get back to striking at distance but Steele won't allow it.
Santos tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Steele smiles and moves away.
Arthur Santos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Santos shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Steele pinned against the cage. Steele gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Santos tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Santos darts in and clinches Steele up against the cage.

Santos breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Steele throws a leg kick but Santos sees it coming and moves out of range.
Steele really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Steele is trying hard to land a takedown here. Santos sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Santos throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Santos avoids the head kick by Steele.
Santos throws a sloppy head kick and Steele moves out of range easily.

Santos darts in and clinches Steele up against the cage.

Steele tries to score a body lock takedown but Santos shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Santos tries to pull guard but Steele holds him up against the cage and eventually Santos drops back down to his feet.
Steele has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Santos jumps guard but Steele turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Santos escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Horrible takedown by Steele or perhaps it was just good defense by Santos which made him look bad.
Steele tries to close the distance and clinch but Santos swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Santos throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Steele slips a jab and a cross from Santos.
Santos looks winded!
Santos throws a nice looking combination but Steele bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Santos tries for a takedown but Steele sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Arthur Santos dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Arthur Santos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Steele is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
