Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jonathan Mata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Pierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jonathan Mata!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jay Pierre!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mata looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pierre is fending him off so far but Mata persists. Nope, Pierre circles away and we're back to standing.
Danga de danga de dang - Mata scores with a four punch combination!


It looks like Jay Pierre has been cut.
Mata tries to clinch up but Pierre circles away and keeps his distance.
Mata throws a head kick but Pierre moves out of range.
Mata misses the shot to the body.
Pierre shoots in looking for a takedown. Mata tries to sprawl out of it but Pierre keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mata manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Mata could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mata is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Pierre has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Mata regains guard immediately.
Pierre wanted to stand there but Mata had control of the position.
Mata throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Pierre has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mata is proving hard to escape from.
Pierre postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Pierre wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Mata has him pressed against the cage.

Mata rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Pierre moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Mata feints a jab promting Pierre to slip. Mata then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Pierre slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Pierre has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far.

Pierre leaves Mata with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Pierre shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mata as he avoids it easily.

Mata is trying to control Pierre's posture but Pierre avoids it.

Pierre is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mata is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Mata is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Pierre off and has taken his back!

Mata throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Mata struggling to keep hold of the position.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Mata thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

I would just about give that final round to Jay Pierre.
I think Mata has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
