PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Troy Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antti Silava (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Troy Powers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Antti Silava!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Steven Brown and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powers thuds his right hand into Silava's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Decent striking displayed by Silava there.
We've been hearing reports that Powers has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Powers takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Silava lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Powers shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Silava but Silava pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Silava lands an overhand right.
Silava swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Powers.
Powers takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Powers digs a good hook to Silava's body.
Silava scores with a kick to the midsection.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Powers takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
A slapping leg kick lands for Silava.
Powers scores with a jab to the body.

Powers shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Silava has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Bad Pluto!. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Powers tries to pass to full mount but Silava defends it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Powers thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Silava keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Powers stalling.
Powers missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Powers thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Silava's head.
Powers not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Powers thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Powers is looking to advance position but Silava won't allow it.
Powers thows a huge punch but Silava dodges it nicely.
Powers sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Powers uses his free foot to push down on Silava's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Silava.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Powers looking to finish with strikes here!
Silava tries to hold on but Powers pushes him away.
Powers punching from mount but Silava doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Powers thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Powers unloading with bombs!
Powers sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Powers pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Powers has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Powers sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Powers lands a couple of good shots and Silava has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Powers scores with punches to the body.
Powers thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Silava avoids the strikes from Powers.
Silava just trying to survive but Powers is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Silava covers up after that shot from Powers.
Powers scores with punches and elbows.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
What can Silava do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Powers scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Troy Powers dominated that round.
That's time! Powers's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Silava connects with a single shot there.
Silava throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Powers counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Powers seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Silava does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Powers not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Powers looks to land a strike but Silava avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Powers trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Powers wants to control from the top but Silava keeps moving.
Powers advances to half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Powers not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Silava is in trouble now - Powers has advanced to mount!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Powers scores with a couple of good head shots there.
The referee warns Silava that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.


It looks like Antti Silava has been cut.
Silava holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Powers tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Silava is bucking up trying to escape but Powers cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Powers cracks Silava with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.


Silava is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A big strike lands for Powers! That's really hurt Silava and he's turned his back - Powers keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Powers jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Troy Powers!
