PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ian Connell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robb Stark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Connell's entrance music is Ain't No Sunshine. A fine choice. Robb Stark told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ian Connell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Robb Stark!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Ryoma Takatsuka and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stark misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
We've been told by Connell's head coaches at Irish Collar-and-Elbow Academy that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Connell connects with a single shot there.
Connell lands a jab to the nose.
A jab from Connell finds it's way through Stark's defenses.
Connell connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Connell comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Ian Connell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Connell connects with the punch.


It looks like Robb Stark has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Stark needs to keep his hands up - Connell had a free shot at his head there.
Connell lands the left hand.
Connell throws a nice looking combination but Stark bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Stark keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Stark takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Connell is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Connell takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Stark takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Jab, jab by Connell - just one landing.
Connell scores with a jab to the jaw.
Stark is looking to clinch but Connell is avoiding it.
Stark takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Stark gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Connell scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Stark doesn't seem bothered though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A left and a right from Connell both land. Nice combination.
Stark takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Stark is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Stark takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Stark walks into a jab.


Stark is rocked!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Connell throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Stark stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Stark gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Stark is still on wobbly legs! Can Connell finish him?
Connell lands a body shot.
Stark seems to have recovered his senses.
Connell scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Stark doesn't seem bothered though.
Stark tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Connell makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Stark fails with a takedown attempt.
Stark's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Connell connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Stark scrambles back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Connell lands a left and a right that send Stark crashing to the mat, dazed. Connell thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

A chopping leg kick lands by Connell.

Connell drops Stark with a beautiful combination! Stark stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Connell is looking for the KO!


That has opened up Robb Stark's cut even more.
Stark takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Connell changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Ian Connell is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Connell works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Connell cracks Stark with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Stark looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Connell finish him?

Connell feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Stark sprawling to the canvas! Stark rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Connell finish him?!
Connell lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Stark falls backwards - clearly groggy! Connell dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ian Connell!
