The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machida throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Machida has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Powers misses with the combination.
Powers uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Machida.
Machida ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Machida throws a big shot that misses.
Powers throws a head kick but Machida moves out of range.
Machida gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Powers.

Machida fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Powers has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Powers lands with an uppercut that bounces Machida off the cage and back into range.

Machida fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Powers on the side of the head.
Powers avoids the body shot from Machida.
Machida moves out of range of the leg kick from Powers.
Machida misses with a hook

Powers fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Machida manages to avoid it.
Powers has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Powers looks to throw the jab but Machida is out of range.
Powers throws a head kick but Machida moves out of range.
Machida explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Powers on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

and Machida counters with a nice right hand that sends Powers toppling to the canvas! Powers scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Machida finish him?!

Renzo Machida decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
