PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kale Ravenal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bubba Jay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bubba Jay told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jay showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Ravenal.
Ravenal misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Jay.
Jay avoids a punch combination nicely.
Ravenal throws a lazy right hand but Jay sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Ravenal throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Jay on the side of the head.

Jay is rocked!

Ravenal takes the fight into the clinch.
Jay is still on wobbly legs! Can Ravenal finish him?
Jay can't break the clinch.
Jay seems to have recovered his senses.
Ravenal can't break the clinch.

Jay drags the fight down to the ground.
Ravenal is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Jay tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jay wants to get back to his feet but Ravenal is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ravenal controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Jay escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ravenal gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Ravenal seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Ravenal wants to get up but he can't break Jay's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Jay working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ravenal doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ravenal manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ravenal avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Ravenal not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Jay is working an open guard so Ravenal takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Kale Ravenal is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ravenal throws a looping overhand right but Jay ducks down to avoid it.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Jay.
Ravenal connects with a crisp jab.
Ravenal looks to land a left hand but Jay moved out of range nicely.

Jay shoots in but Ravenal avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Ravenal throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Jay is holding his hands too far apart here. Ravenal throws a hard, straight punch right down the pipe and BOOM! Jay is out! That punch landed square on the jaw - what a shot!
