The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ely staying out of range there.
Romeiro throws a leg kick

and Ely counters with a takedown into side control.

Romeiro is rocked!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Ely looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Romeiro is avoiding damage well.
Oh Romeiro is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Ely is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Romeiro knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Ely tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Romeiro seems to have got his legs back now.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ely decides to stand back up.

No joy there for Romeiro, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A jab from Romeiro misses.
Romeiro swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Romeiro misses with a head kick.

Ely shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Ely was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Romeiro is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ely has hold of Romeiro's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Romeiro tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Ely cranks the arm and Romeiro screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Romeiro, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

After winning the bout, Joesph Ely thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
