PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Obworth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Mir!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Jacob Obworth!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Skip Squint and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Obworth darts in looking for a takedown but Mir gets double underhooks and turns Obworth into the cage.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Obworth has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Obworth is working for takedown but Mir is calmly controlling the position for now.
Still in the clinch, Mir scores with a nice short uppercut.

Mir pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Obworth shoots in and drives through. Mir sprawls well.
Frank Mir has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jacob Obworth.

Obworth is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mir knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Mir has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Mir is looking to regain half guard here but Obworth keeps moving and retains side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mir manages to work his way to half guard, despite Obworth's best efforts.
Obworth is nestled in close to Mir, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Obworth thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Obworth thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mir's head.

Obworth seems to be looking for submissions.
Obworth takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Mir kicks Obworth off and gets back to his feet.
Obworth dives in and grabs Mir's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mir pushes down on Obworth's head and hops out.

letting Obworth counter with a right hand.
Horrible takedown by Obworth or perhaps it was just good defense by Mir which made him look bad.

Obworth tries to sprawl but Mir drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Obworth is defending against the submission attempts here by Mir.

Mir is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Obworth has managed to free his arm - good work.
Mir not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Mir is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Obworth is trying to get back to full guard.

Mir is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jacob Obworth dominated that round.

and Mir counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Mir.
Mir swings wildly with an uppercut but Obworth uses good head movement to avoid it.

Mir drags the fight down to the ground.
Obworth scoring with punches to the head and body.
Obworth forces his way into half guard.
Obworth scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Obworth passes to full mount!
Obworth with shots to the head and body - Mir looks very uncomfortable down there.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Obworth lands a heavy shot. That's hurt Mir! Obworth sees the opportunity and turns up the heat - strike after strike land to the defenseless Mir and the ref dives in to save him! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Jacob Obworth!
Our winner, Jacob Obworth, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
