PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Edison Johnston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vitaliy Sus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vitaliy Sus will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edison Johnston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vitaliy Sus!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Jonathan Paton and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sus has managed to clinch.

Johnston drags the fight down to the ground.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Sus got a little sloppy there for a moment and Johnston has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sus has managed to get both his arms back between Johnston's legs - danger averted.
Johnston could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Sus is looking to stand up but Johnston won't let him.
Johnston is pulling down on Sus's head to control his posture.
Sus is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Sus is looking to pass into half guard but Johnston pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Johnston is in guard.
Sus wants to sweep but no luck.
Sus not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Sus really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnston. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Vitaliy Sus has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Johnston misses with a takedown attempt - Sus sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Sus drives through with a takedown into guard.
Johnston keeping moving, preventing Sus from controlling successfully.
Johnston wants to sweep but no luck.
Sus wants to control from the top but Johnston keeps moving.
Johnston is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Sus trying to control the position from guard on top but Johnston is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Vitaliy Sus.

Sus gets a double leg takedown into Johnston's guard.
Sus wants to control from the top but Johnston keeps moving.

Johnston is looking for a triangle but Sus pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sus postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Johnston is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Sus, into his guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Johnston working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Johnston makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Sus is trying to hold Johnston in close to prevent damage but Johnston has managed to pass into half guard.
Sus has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Johnston is working away from the top position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sus tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Johnston has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Sus looks winded!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sus tries to hold on but Johnston pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vitaliy Sus dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Sus shoots in and gets a takedown into Johnston's guard.
Johnston is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Johnston looking for a sweep. Not yet Johnston, not yet.
Sus must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Sus loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Johnston bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sus's guard.
Johnston throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Johnston decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Johnston tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sus paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Danga de danga de dang - Sus scores with a four punch combination!


It looks like Edison Johnston has been cut.
Nice takedown defense from Sus. No joy for Johnston on that attempt.

Sus drives through with a takedown into guard.
Sus wants to stand and escape but instead Johnston has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Sus is breathing heavily.
Johnston missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Johnston postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Sus throws his legs up looking for a submission but Johnston uses it to pass to side control.

Johnston is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sus has escaped the position, nice work there.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sus wants to control but Johnston postures up.
Sus wants to get back to his feet but Johnston is dominant here and he's now got Sus's back!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Johnston cracks Sus with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Sus from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Johnston lands a shot to the head.
Johnston has the hooks in. Sus is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Johnston not allowing Sus to control his hands.
Sus is covering up but some of the strikes from Johnston are getting through and doing damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Sus's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Sus trying to control the action but Johnston just sinks the hooks in.
Johnston lands a shot to the head.
Johnston scores with punches to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Edison Johnston will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Edison Johnston's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Johnston pushes Sus up against the cage in a clinch.

Johnston drags the fight down to the ground.
Johnston has Sus pulled in close to control his posture.
Johnston lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Sus!
Johnston avoids the attempt from Sus to control.
Johnston tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Sus is looking to improve his position but Johnston isn't that keen on the idea.
Sus tries to hold on but Johnston postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sus takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Sus is looking to improve his position but Johnston isn't that keen on the idea.
Sus wants to hold on but Johnston pushes him away.
The referee warns Sus that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Johnston tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Sus tries to reverse the position but Johnston maintains control.

Johnston prevents Sus from getting the reversal.

Johnston with shots to the head and body - Sus looks very uncomfortable down there.
A nice elbow there by Johnston.
Johnston lands a nice shot to the head.
Johnston lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Sus hang on?
Johnston with a couple of short strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Johnston is landing with some decent strikes but Sus is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Sus tries to get back to half guard but can't.

And that's the end of the fight!
Edison Johnston showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Johnston has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
