The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newson leaves Kvention with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Newson tries to clinch up.
Kvention shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Newson as he avoids it easily.
Rodi Kvention seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kvention is trying to drag Newson to the mat but Newson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Kvention is trying to trip Newson. He has hold of a leg but Newson is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Kvention persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Newson is looking to stand up but Kvention isn't so interested in that idea.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Newson gets underhooks to prevent Kvention's takedown attempt.
Newson jerks Kvention's head down, straight into the path of a devastating knee! Kvention drops to the floor in a crumpled heap! Newson goes to throw a finishing haymaker but pulls out - good sportsmanship from Newson because Kvention was completely out of it. That was a nice finish - just the right level of brutality to send everyone home happy.
