PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Goatboys Child (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Momo Sy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Child comes to the cage accompanied by Bill Hicks - Goatboy. Sy is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Kamala Theme. Momo Sy is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Goatboys Child!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Momo Sy!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Dirk Anderson and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sy swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Sy connects with a right hand. Child shakes it off.
Child has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Sy.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Child.

Sy closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Child's guard.
My spies in Basics -LOD- inform me that Sy has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Child wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Child working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sy doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sy manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sy wants to control from the top but Child keeps moving.

Child throws his legs up looking for a submission but Sy uses it to pass to side control.
Child is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Sy off and has taken his back!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sy trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Sy breaks Child's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Sy wants to control from the top but Child keeps moving.
Child controlling Sy's posture.
Sy controls from within his opponent's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Momo Sy has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Nice sprawl there from Sy as Child shoots in.
Child has been working on his balance at Island Top Team, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Sy.

Child closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Sy quickly recovers to half guard.
Child looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Child is looking for a kimura here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sy trying to hold on to Child's head to control him but Child postures up.

Sy is defending against the submission attempts here by Child.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Child is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sy sees it coming and defends easily.

Child is working for a kimura but Sy is defending it quite comfortably.
Sy is pressing down on Child's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sy is trying to control the position but Child postures up.
Child wants to pass the guard but Sy is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Child slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Child thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Goatboys Child dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Excellent takedown into side control there by Child.
Sy is looking to regain half guard here but Child keeps moving and retains side control.
Child has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Sy!

Child is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Sy is surviving well by controlling Child's body position as best he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sy tries to reverse the position but Child maintains control.

Child looking for a guillotine from mount but Sy is having none of it.
Sy's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Child goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Sy turns into him and now he's in Child's guard.
Child could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Child working for a triangle but Sy defends it easily.
Child is trying to control the position but Sy postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Sy avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sy preventing the sweep.
Sy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Child. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Child looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Child throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Child looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Child keeping moving, preventing Sy from controlling successfully.
Child not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Child escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Child looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Child pulls Sy in close to his closed guard and prevents Sy from doing any damage or advancing position.
Child keeping moving, preventing Sy from controlling successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Child has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Sy doesn't defend quickly enough and Child has managed to lock this one up! Can Sy escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Child on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Goatboys Child!
Goatboys Child took to the mic in his post fight interview and said 'It's like there's nothing between your legs. It's like a wisp of cotton candy framing a paper cut.'.
