Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Miquel Fernandez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Average Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miquel Fernandez could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Average Joe's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Miquel Fernandez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Average Joe!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fernandez doesn't manage to clinch there - Joe circles away.

Fernandez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Fernandez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Joe really wants to buck Fernandez off and get back to his feet.
Fernandez lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Joe working to try and regain half guard.
Joe bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Joe content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Joe drops back looking for a leg! Fernandez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Fernandez manages to kick Joe off! Joe jumps back into Fernandez's guard.
Fernandez is trying to control the position but Joe postures up.

Joe drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Joe jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Fernandez is looking to regain half guard here but Joe keeps moving and retains side control.

Joe decides to stand up, so the ref orders Fernandez to his feet.
Fernandez stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Joe.
Fernandez keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Joe thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Fernandez if he has to take too many more of those.

Joe fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Fernandez, pushing him back against the cage.

Joe breaks from the clinch.

Fernandez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Joe tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Fernandez wants to free his trapped foot but Joe is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Joe is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Fernandez tries to pass to full mount but Joe defends it.
Fernandez takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Joe moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Fernandez is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Fernandez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Joe swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Fernandez gets to his feet - Joe follows without any prompting.
Joe tries for a takedown but Fernandez circles away easily

and Fernandez counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Fernandez throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Fernandez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Joe as he jumps to the side.
Joe doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Fernandez counters with a stiff right hand.
Miquel Fernandez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Average Joe.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Joe drags the fight down to the ground.
Joe wants to sweep but no luck.

Joe is looking for a triangle but Fernandez pushes his legs off easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Fernandez looking to sit in guard and control but Joe gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Miquel Fernandez will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Fernandez crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Joe - the referee stops the clock and Fernandez gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Joe. Fernandez manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Joe decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Joe seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Joe is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Fernandez!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Joe postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Fernandez looks a forlorn figure.
Fernandez wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Joe doesn't have the hooks in and Fernandez manages to turn into his guard.
Fernandez stands and throws Joe's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Fernandez stands up.
Joe tries for a takedown but Fernandez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Joe walks forward, straight into a front kick from Fernandez.

Joe has taken the fight to the clinch.

Joe pulls guard.
Joe is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Joe is working for a submission of some sort.
Fernandez is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Joe scores with a couple of nice shots.

Joe decides to stand and escape the position.

Joe bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Joe goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Fernandez rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Joe's guard! Nice work there by Fernandez!

Joe keeping moving, preventing Fernandez from controlling successfully.
Fernandez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Joe looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Fernandez postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Joe has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fernandez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Joe manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Fernandez defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Joe.

Joe has control of Fernandez's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Fernandez regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Joe mounts Fernandez! Really nice guard pass there!

Joe is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Fernandez is surviving well by controlling Joe's body position as best he can.
Fernandez wants to hold on but Joe pushes him away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Fernandez could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Average Joe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Joe.

Fernandez shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Joe's guard.

Fernandez is trying to control the action in half guard but Joe is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Fernandez is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Joe looks like he's trying to stand up.
Fernandez looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Average Joe has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fernandez wants to control but Joe is keeping him busy.

Joe has hold of Fernandez's hands but Fernandez slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Fernandez is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Fernandez looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Joe tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Fernandez has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Fernandez won't let Joe get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Fernandez pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
BOOM! Fernandez connects with a massive shot to the dome!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Fernandez landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Joe is looking to escape.
Fernandez is tying to control. Joe wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Fernandez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Joe is fending him off so far but Fernandez persists. Nope, Joe circles away and we're back to standing.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Miquel Fernandez.
I think Fernandez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
