The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice jab there from Nickels.
Nickels looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Ali throws a lazy right hand but Nickels sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Ali misses with a body shot.
Nickels tries to bum rush Ali with a series of wild strikes but Ali uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Nickels throws a left and a right that both miss
and Ali counters with a slapping leg kick.
Ali on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ali connects with a right hand. Nickels shakes it off.
Ali throws a hook to the side of Nickels's head but Nickels sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Ali throws a jab but it's blocked by Nickels.
Nickels drops his hands momentarily and Ali takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Ali lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Ali misses with a looping left.
Ali throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Ali takes a swing at Nickels's ribcage but misses.
Nickels throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ali.
Ali pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Nice defenses there by Nickels.

Ali misses with a looping right.
Ali just misses with a punch to the body.
Ali lands a head shot.
Nickels ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ali moves away.
Nickels takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Ali throws a jab but it's blocked by Nickels.
Nickels moves out of range as Ali strikes.
Ali throws a hook but Nickels blocks it.
Nickels uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Ali.
Ali has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Nickels finds it's way round the side to connect with Ali's head.
Ali throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Nickels lands a right hook to the body.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ali connects with a body shot that sends Nickels's belly button to the back.
Ali has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Nickels throws a combination that misses
and Ali counters with a straight right hand.
Ali throws a body punch but Nickels moves out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ali throws a big shot that misses.
Ali misses with a straight left.
Nickels bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Ali lands a nice hook to Nickels's body. Nickels takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Oooooh!!! Ali has knocked Nickels down with a huge combo! Ali steps away and waves a wobbly Nickels back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Ali uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Nickels.
Oh Nickels is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Nickels avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Ali swings widly with a right hand
and Nickels counters with a series of strikes. Ali will be more careful next time no doubt.
Ali throws a hook but Nickels avoids it easily.
Ali missing with a left hand there. Nickels was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Ali fakes the body blow, causing Nickels to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! Nickels goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!

In his post fight interview, Muhammad Ali started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
