PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anna Karenina (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Masa Mama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Mama's choice of entrance music: Cowboys From Hell. Masa Mama is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Masa Mama!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Santiago Holmes and Michael Johnstone.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mama keeps the fight on the outside.
Karenina closes the distance but Mama moves to the side

and Mama counters with a takedown into side control.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Mama is staying tight to Karenina's torso, preventing him from escaping.
It looks like Mama might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Masa Mama was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Karenina throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mama's waist but Mama gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Karenina off to one side.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Mama has eaten all the pies!

That's one minute gone in the round.

and Mama decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Karenina's guard.
Mama is pushing down on Karenina's leg trying to pass to half guard. Karenina is fighting to maintain full guard but Mama has managed to sneak the leg through.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mama passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Karenina!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mama working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Karenina turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Mama off and cradles Karenina's limp body as Mama celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Masa Mama!
In his post fight interview, Masa Mama started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
