Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andrew Ellis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jan Smeets (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Andrew Ellis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jan Smeets!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Albert Achterberg and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ellis darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Smeets looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Ellis lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Ellis seems to be looking for submissions.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ellis connects with a nice short shot to Smeets's temple.
Smeets manages to get to full guard.
Ellis throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Smeets has a closed guard, preventing Ellis from standing up.
Ellis throwing strikes but missing.
Ellis working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Smeets looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ellis is one step ahead there.

Ellis gets to his feet. Smeets looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Smeets throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Ellis counters with a head kick. That will keep Smeets thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Smeets swats away the attempt to clinch by Ellis.

Ellis is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Ellis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Smeets sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ellis somewhat.
Ellis takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Ellis tries to close the distance and clinch up but Smeets swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Smeets is looking to land body kicks.

Ellis gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ellis is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Smeets is aware though and is defending well.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ellis shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Smeets as he jumps to the side.

Smeets fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Ellis to the ground. Smeets is now in Ellis's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ellis manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Ellis tries to score a body lock takedown but Smeets shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Ellis wants the takedown. Smeets is fighting it off but Ellis persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Smeets's guard against the cage.

Smeets wants to get back to his feet but Ellis drags him back down.

Ellis cracks Smeets with a big right hand but Smeets just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Ellis throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Ellis sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Smeets is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Smeets dodges the ground and pound from Ellis.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ellis creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Ellis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smeets keeps working.

Smeets is trying to get back to half guard.
Smeets avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Ellis.
Smeets on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

The ground and pound from Ellis seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Smeets circles away from the clinch attempt.

Ellis manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Smeets on his heels. He'll look to pass Smeets's guard now, I'm sure.

Smeets takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ellis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Ellis throws a big elbow that misses.
Smeets working a defensive guard but Ellis manages to pass into side control anyway.
Ellis is looking to take a break and control but Smeets is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The strikes coming from Ellis are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Ellis looks up at the clock and then as Smeets takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Ellis smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Ellis is really struggling to control Smeets but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Ellis grinds an elbow into Smeets's temple.
Ellis misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Ellis throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Smeets tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ellis wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Ellis decides to stand back up.
Ellis tries for a takedown but Smeets sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Ellis shoots in looking for a takedown but Smeets manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ellis's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Smeets circles away from the clinch attempt.
Ellis fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andrew Ellis. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ellis doesn't manage to clinch there - Smeets circles away.
Ellis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Smeets pinned against the cage. Smeets gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Ellis shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Smeets but Smeets pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Well Ellis has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
