PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Douglas Lima (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Ash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lima comes to the cage accompanied by DMX - Ain't no sunshine. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Douglas Lima!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 1, fighting out of New York, Adam Ash!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lima closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Good leg kick by Lima there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Lima avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Ash defending well as Lima loads up on a big left hand.
Ash bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Lima.
Ash closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lima circles away.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Ash has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Lima cracks Ash with a right hand to the side of the head.


It looks like Adam Ash has been cut.
Ash ducks under a wild hook from Lima.
Lima looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Ash changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lima tries to avoid it but Ash manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lima to the ground. Lima escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Lima is trying to get an arm triangle but Ash is defending well.
Lima postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lima tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lima has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Ash is looking for a sweep.
You can see the frustration on Ash's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Lima goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Ash rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Lima's guard! Nice work there by Ash!

Lima manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ash breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Lima moves away from the strike by Ash.
Ash jabs Lima to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Lima wants to clinch up but Ash keeps it at a distance.

Lima takes one to the side of the head.
Ash throws a series of punches but Lima moves out of range.

Lima wants to clinch up but Ash keeps it at a distance.

Ash shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lima's guard.

Lima has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ash can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Lima pushes Ash away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Ash gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Douglas Lima will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Let's hope that Ash has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Lima had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ash defends it easily.
Ash connects with a couple of short punches.

Ash drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Lima dives on top into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

This has been an exciting period of action!
Ash is pushing down on Lima's leg trying to pass to half guard. Lima is fighting to maintain full guard but Ash has managed to sneak the leg through.

Adam Ash comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lima has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In his post fight interview, Douglas Lima started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
