PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yuri Rook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kurt Meyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rook comes to the cage accompanied by Mr Krinkle. Meyer has chosen I'd Love to Knock the Hell out of You as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 4 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yuri Rook!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 33 - 18 - 0, fighting out of London, Kurt Meyer!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Glass and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rook drives through with a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Meyer tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rook loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Rook trying to move into half guard but instead Meyer has managed to sweep!
Meyer wants to get up but he can't break Rook's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Rook is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Meyer wanted to stand there but Rook had control of the position.

Rook looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Rook working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Meyer.

Rook looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Meyer has picked Rook up and slammed him! Rook can't keep hold of the triangle and Meyer manages to pass to side control!
Meyer tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Rook is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Meyer wants to get back to his feet.

Rook actively working from the bottom here.
Meyer tries to stand but can't do so whilst Rook controls his leg.
Meyer works his way into side control.
Meyer tries to stand but Rook is controlling his head.

Meyer decides to stand back up.

Rook drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Meyer wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Rook missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Meyer keeping full guard, as Rook tries to pass.
Rook is looking to work some ground and pound but Meyer has wrist control.
Rook throwing strikes from guard but Meyer blocks nicely.
Meyer is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Rook wants to control but Meyer is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Rook trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Meyer avoids the attempt from Rook to control.
Rook is looking to get to half guard.
Rook sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Rook wants to improve his position but Meyer is controlling well.

Meyer stands up out of the half guard.

Rook closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Meyer to the mat! Meyer manages to get full guard.

Rook drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Meyer dives on top into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Meyer wants to control from the top but Rook keeps moving.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Meyer has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rook is proving hard to escape from.
Rook is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Rook working for submissions but it's allowed Meyer to get to half guard.
Rook wants to get back to full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Meyer is taking a breather. Rook says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Meyer is trying to control. Rook wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Yuri Rook will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Meyer jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Rook fails with a takedown attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rook.
Meyer lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Meyer gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Rook to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Meyer wants to sweep here but Rook controlling him for the moment.
Rook working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Meyer's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Meyer trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rook being controlled here momentarily.
Rook tries to free his leg and advance position but Meyer is retaining full guard.
Rook trying to control the position from guard on top but Meyer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rook throwing strikes from guard but Meyer blocks nicely.
Meyer lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Rook!
Meyer is trying to control here but Rook has managed to regain half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Meyer is taking a breather. Rook says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Rook trying to control here.
Rook wants to sweep but Meyer has passed to side control!
Rook wants to control but Meyer postures up.
Rook has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Meyer stands up.
Rook looks for a takedown but Meyer sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yuri Rook. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rook staying out of range there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rook shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Meyer cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


It looks like Yuri Rook has been cut.
Rook goes for a double leg but Meyer avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Meyer continues to drive forward.
Meyer swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Meyer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rook will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Rook shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Meyer sprawls well. Meyer wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rook gets slowly back to his feet.

Meyer lands a big head kick that sends Rook tumbling to the mat! Meyer takes a step backwards and waves Rook back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Kurt Meyer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rook looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Meyer is fending him off so far but Rook persists. Nope, Meyer circles away and we're back to standing.
Meyer throws a powerful right kick. Rook tried to block low but the kick was high! Rook was taken right off of his feet! Meyer jumps in to finish the job and the ref tackles him! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Kurt Meyer!
A very excited looking Kurt Meyer made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
