PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Josh Fardy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stefan Kung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Fardy might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Smack My Bitch Up. Stefan Kung is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Josh Fardy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Stefan Kung!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Wagner Zegers and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kung shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Kung looking to pass the guard.
Kung lands a couple of elbows.
Fardy looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kung is one step ahead there.
Kung stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fardy swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kung sitting in guard here, content to control.
Kung won't allow Fardy to sweep him here.

Kung sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Fardy's guard.
Kung controlling the action here.
Fardy wants to control but Kung is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Fardy is looking to improve his position.

Kung is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Kung seems to be looking for submissions.

Fardy wants to improve his position but Kung is controlling well.

Kung is working for a kimura but Fardy is defending it quite comfortably.
Fardy is pressing down on Kung's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Kung postures up and lands a big shot to Fardy's brow.
Kung is working Fardy over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Kung passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Kung working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Fardy defending against the ground and pound.
Fardy is not content to let Kung control the position.
Fardy tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Fardy knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kung on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Fardy can't do much from the bottom here.
Fardy is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sloppy strikes there by Kung.
Kung throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Fardy works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Kung wants to take a breather but Fardy is having none of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kung perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stefan Kung seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kung shoots for a takedown but Fardy saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Fardy looks to throw the jab but Kung is out of range.
Kung closes the distance and clinches up with Fardy, looking for a takedown. Kung pushes Fardy against the cage but Fardy circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Kung bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Fardy connects with a crisp jab.
Josh Fardy is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kung shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Fardy pinned against the cage. Fardy gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Fardy misses with a hook. Kung ducked under it nicely.
Fardy lands a lovely overhand right.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kung goes for a double leg but Fardy avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Fardy continues to drive forward.

Kung jumps guard but Fardy stands there with Kung around his waist. Kung gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Fardy looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Kung is looking to take this one to the mat.
Kung takes an elbow to the forehead.
Fardy lands a hook to the side of the head.
Kung can't get the takedown.
Kung tries to pull guard but Fardy forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Fardy lands a nice shot to the body.
Kung is breathing heavily.
Fardy lands with a light punch inside.
Fardy is leaning against Kung and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
I was talking to Fardy's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Kung wants to take the fight to the mat but Fardy manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Fardy stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Kung jumps guard but Fardy stands there with Kung around his waist. Kung gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Fardy thumps Kung with a low kick.
Fardy cracks Kung with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Kung tries to close the distance and clinch up but Fardy swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Kung scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Fardy manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Stefan Kung has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fardy tries to pass to full mount but Kung defends it.
Kung is refusing to be controlled, as Fardy sits in half guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Nice defenses there by Kung.
Fardy connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Kung's hands.
Josh Fardy is winning the standup battle so far.
Fardy tries a head kick but it misses.
Fardy takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Fardy misses with a straight right.
Kung shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Fardy defends it nicely.
Fardy digs a good hook to Kung's body.

Kung looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Fardy is fending him off so far but Kung persists. Nope, Fardy circles away and we're back to standing.

Fardy fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kung manages to avoid it.
Fardy fails to land with a series of punches.
Kung tries to score a power double leg takedown but Fardy sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kung somewhat.

Kung has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Fardy.

Fardy throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Kung doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling Fardy to counter with a crisp jab.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kung gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Fardy counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Kung on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Fardy misses with a body shot.

Kung changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Fardy tries to avoid it but Kung manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Fardy to the ground. Fardy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Kung takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Kung misses with a looping right.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kung.

Kung checks the leg kick nicely there.
Fardy tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Kung is able to avoid easily.

Kung shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Fardy is trying to defend but Kung finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
