The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turpa shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mendoza sprawls well. Mendoza wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Turpa gets slowly back to his feet.
Turpa could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Mendoza looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Turpa shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mendoza but Mendoza pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Turpa tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mendoza defends well and Turpa ends up having to push Mendoza into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kalja Turpa. That's going to take a lot out of him.
