PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ford Prefect (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Tanner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Prefect comes into the arena with For Whom The Bell Tolls blaring out of the sound system. Tanner has chosen Hooty Tooty as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tanner looks to throw the jab but Prefect is out of range.
Prefect checks a leg kick.
Tanner is looking to clinch but Prefect is avoiding it.
Prefect will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Prefect throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Tanner sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Tanner stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
An inside leg kick lands from Tanner.

Tanner scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Prefect takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Tanner goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Prefect has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Tanner but great work by Prefect.

Prefect tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Prefect has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Tanner tries to buck Prefect off but Prefect is having none of it.

Tanner is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Prefect pulls his head out easily.

Tanner throws his legs up looking for a submission but Prefect uses it to pass to side control.

Prefect looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Tanner moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Prefect wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Tanner, who protects the arm well.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Prefect is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Tanner has escaped the position, nice work there.

Prefect is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Tanner knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

We've been informed that Tanner has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Tanner wants to get back to his feet but Prefect is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Tanner is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Prefect is aware though and is defending well.

Tanner escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Prefect gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Prefect uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Tanner.

and Prefect counters with a three punch combo that has Tanner backing up. Tanner nods at Prefect to acknowledge the strikes.

Tanner scores with a sloppy right hand. Prefect should have avoided that one.
Tanner misses with an uppercut. Prefect saw that one coming.
Tanner throws a lazy right hand but Prefect sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Tanner jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Prefect tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Tanner swivels and escapes.
Tanner missing with a left hand there. Prefect was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Prefect closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Tanner throws a hook to the side of Prefect's head but Prefect sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Prefect looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Tanner just misses with a punch to the body.
Prefect bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Prefect tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Tanner was well out of range. Poor timing from Prefect.

Prefect takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Tanner is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Prefect rolls with it to try and escape but Tanner cranks on the arm and Prefect is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
